Default Another Treat for those who went on the Boat Tour

For those of you that made it it to the tour of Kvichak Marine two years ago here's a treat. These two pics taken last week are of our 1st set of builders trials on hull-001. This is the 1st of what we hope will be over 100 units built for the Coast Guard over the next 8 years.

I'll try and set another tour up for early April. Stay tuned

This boat is pretty much considered the Z of it's class. It's 45' and though it displaces 36,000 lbs will do 43kts thanks to it's two large engines powering two rather large water jets. It can pull a 180 at full speed in less than 2 lengths of the boat. It's designed for SAR and interdiction work.

The 2nd pic includes a nice shot of Mt. Rainier in the background.

While I don't think that I can arrange a ride, I should be able to get a group of us into the factory to see the manufacturing and fabrication process taking place.

I very much enjoyed the tour two years ago when we had the opportunity to see the hovercraft being built. Shortly after that tour our Remond area company was awarded the contract to supply about 300 precast concrete panels that were shipped to Cold Bay, Alaska to be used as the entrance/exit ramps for the hovercraft. So at least two Seattle area companies benefited from that project.

Definately plan to attend this year if you can arrange another tour. Maybe I will get lucky and the tour will bring us more work.

Hey, it is a small world Mr. Peabody. In the other thread we learned that we only work a few blocks away from each other. Now I see this thread and realize that the company I work for has made parts for that boat

I think I have seen this boat zooming around Elliot Bay. Do I detect a mount on the bow for a .50 cal machine gun?

This is closer to a race car than you mighty guess. Contoured seats with harnesses (air shock mounted). Lots of electronics and heads up display. The only thing I have seen that was close was a mid 30s' US Customs intercept boat at Orcas Island. Triple 250HP Yamaha outboards (with .50 cal) and three of the biggest guys you will ever find in the NFL. Bad ass boat, bad ass dudes (very friendly)! Glad I'm not a criminal.

I want one to go with the Z! Please post a notice for a tour...

Dean

? I think not. Even the smaller Safe Boats have the .50 cal on deck. We see them all the time here in Manchester, especially when a sub or carrier arrives or departs Bremerton. They also pace the ferries depending on the threat level.

Good eyes Dean,

Yes there are 50cal mounts on both the bow & stern. We are not allowed to test the efficacy of the guns however

You would not have seen this boat as it did not hit the water until last Thursday when these pics were taken and as noted in the original post this is the 1st one off the production line. While this boat is quite a bit larger than those made by Safeboat the overall shape is somewhat similar.

I'm in for another tour, first one was great. The fabrication and welding was first class. As hard working tax payers, we deserve a ride on that boat.
