I would make sure the weather was going to be good, especially in the mountains.

If it was summer I would suggest driving thru Yellowstone and the Bighorn Mts and take Chief Joseph Scenic Highway.

Sounds like the safest route this time of year.

It will probbubly be I-90 no doubt. Remember that the passes have been closed much more this year than the past 30 years. However it is warming up EARLIER than anytime in the past 300 years .

Interesting coincidence - I'm going to be driving from Seattle to Chicago on I-90 and then on to CT on I-80 around the end of this month and first couple days of April. I've been watching the weather intently, as well. So far, I think it's a 50/50 on what the weather's going to be like at that time. There are still occasional storms in places. I'm most worried about Snoqualmie Pass in WA, Butte MT, and Cleveland OH. If the weather turns or looks sketchy anywhere along the route, I will consider heading south or else waiting it out someplace along the way. It's not worth risking. Just take your time. Maybe I'll see you out there.

As well you should. Here's a photo my wife took nearing the top of Homestake Pass (Butte) around June 7 last year. That's right...June! She couldn't see my knuckles were white but there was nobody in front of me and I was able to keep my speed up. If I would have been slowed by traffic I probably wouldn't have made it over. Sorry for the link...I haven't been able to figure out how to insert MSN Groups photos. Have fun on the trip, though.

I am moving back east. I have lived here for nearly 6 years and it's time to go back.

I drove the route in another car in May 2003. In the vette, I did southern Illinois to WA in August 2006. Never tried this route in late March / early April. It should be interesting!

Thanks for the photo. I saw some snow in May on this route, as well. Although it was on the side of the road in Big Horn National Park and it was nearly gone. Wish me good luck!

Good Luck! If you're into a little sight seeing you may want to make a quick stop and see Devil's Tower. It's fairly close to I-90 in Wyoming iirc.

Thanks for the tip on Devil's Tower. I have never seen that before, but the pictures of it that I found on the web look amazing. I will likely check it out, assuming the weather is cooperating!

I'll be coming back from BG with a new Z in late April.

Probably I-90, unless the weather gets bad, then I'll either hole up for a day or two or go South. But ultimately I'll have to go through some pass.

Good luck to all you traveling.
