I have attended this event since it's inception (3years) and each year it has been bigger and better than the last.

This event is fun because you get a huge mix of different makes of autos, both import and domestic.

Of course it is also a blast to see how full we can get the moving truck (the marines bring the truck) full of toys for the kids

I hope see a bunch of corvettes show up with me this year as it would be a total blast to roll down with a long line of sexy corvettes Do it for the kids

Here is a link to pics and vids of the past 3 years: http://www.nwtoyrun.com/index.php?op...pose&Itemid=41

Marine Corp's Toys For Tots is a good cause. I'm going to take it to our club, Corvettes de Olympia, and recommend that we participate. What's better than driving your toy to give a kid a toy at Christmas? It don't get much better than that and all comes together!

Will the Police provide some kind of traffic management this year? Last year they dropped the ball, and isntead of providing a little traffic management to let the parade of cars get on the freeway, they setup speed traps and like typical revenue generating scoundrels, and preyed on anyone trying to catchup to their friends. Had they just blocked the light for 2 minutes for us to cross, none of that would've happened. Sorry for my soreness towards the police in that regard, but i'm a bit bitter about they way they just abandoned the event last year...

But - on a happier note, I went last year (didn't get pulled over either... lol) and donated, this year i may likely do the same. Hope the weather is nice!

for a good event!

Haha, had they blocked the intersection nobody would have felt the need to speed to catch up, hence they would not have made any money on speeders

Actually the event organizer is looking into getting police support this year, but has said that........wait for it............BAM...the police want money to provide support haha. they'll get ya coming or going

Anyway I hope to see you there

Wow - Police asking for money to support a Charity event. I wonder if they're always so freaking greedy... someone should call up some local Media and ask if it's normal for Police to expect additional payment for Supporting Charity Events...

I think the reason (but I may be wrong) is that the police officers who do this sort of thing actually do it "off the clock" on their own personal time. So they can either donate their time or charge the event for their time.

Who's the Event Organizer? I'd like to get ahold of the guy and ask him if the police are still taking advantage of a Charity event.

If they are, I'm going to call King 5 and ask them if they'd contact the Police Department and get the scoop on How Police Departments like to Take Advantage of Charity events by charging them Money instead of donating support... and if that kind of behavior is Standard Operating Procedure for our Police...

Edit:

I sent an e-mail to the Admin of the site linked above explaining my complaints about the police... I also called the Federal Way Police, and the officer I spoke to sounded surprised that Police weren't covering it for free. She directed me to the Chief's assistant (who is out today) and they should be able to get this event covered... If they're still insisting on charging, i encourage everyone to complain about that...

Hey that's great to hear. I'm looking forward to meeting some fellow vette lovers

It would be neat if us corvette owners could have a better showing than the STR4 group this year. For the past 3 years the SRT4 group has by far had the best attendance record of cars showing.

Please read

If you are planning on attending this event, read the following. This was posted on the SRT4 forums by a gentleman who works in the Toys for Tots wharehouse.

Just an FYI if people are still shopping for a toy. The little kids generally have an over abundance of stuff, it is the boys and girls ages 9-12, and teenager stuff we run low on. And just to help out those people that work in the ware house with sorting so they dont have to rattle their brains even more deciding what age group to place your toyin. If you could label it with one of these age groups and then male or female would be great

0-2 years old
3-5 years old
6-8 years old
9-12 years old
teen

The organizer of this event (He goes by the screen name of kettlman on car forums) just sent me a PM on one of the other forums I frequent and asked me to post it here to help him out.

There are a few questions that were asked.

1. Yes a police escort will be there this year. I have been in contact with the City of Lacy and the City of Kent for possible street light closures. So far the response it good. I hope that we can get them on board. This will relierve a lot of the headache.

2. Fperra: I live in Lakewood. I will PM Quint my email address so that he can get it to you. Quint please do not post it. I would rather not get Spam.

3. Roadstr899: Do you know an older guy named Bob? He owns a very nice C4 corvette. If so tell him that David with the RX7 says hi and I hope to see him out at the toy run.

4. LF97C5Vette: Thanks! Your efforts are appreciated! I think that we might actually get them to do it for free though. Just have to talk to the right people. So far City of Lacey and City of Kent have been awesome to work with.

Take care all! Hope to see you there!

kettlman

So, so far it sounds like we may have the support of the police this year....Yaaaay finally

Quint, I think I know who you are talking about, Bob, he has a beautiful C4. He moved out of the area if it is the same person but I see him from time to time. I'll pass it along.
As for Lacey Police, I talked with the CPO yesterday and he was passing along the request for assistance to the Lt. in charge of the reserves and they will more than likely be able to provide some assistance. Lacey never charges for police assistance like this and I doubt if many cities ever do unless it is a commercial event. We worked at Cabelas over the weekend for their grand opening doing traffic and crowd control and Cabelas footed the bill. The motorcycle toy run is coming up in Lacey, 1000 bikes, and the Lacey and Olympia police will assist. There is no charge that I am aware of. Depends on the type of event. I know there is no charge for police assistance for the Support the Troops March in Lacey. Safety is the primary focus, both for participants and for regular traffic. I bet Kent is the same way, most departments operate in mostly the same manner.
