Don't take your Corvette to Curt Warner in Vancouver
Well today I about heard it all. A customer calls me in a hurting mood, he has just purchased a 2007 Z06 with about 14k miles on it from a Chevy dealership in Texas. He drives it home without any problems. For the next couple of weeks the car runs great and performs well for another 4k miles. The other day while just cruising down Highway 14 at about 75 MPH he hears a ticking noise from the engine. Suddenly the ticking becomes louder and before he is able to pull over the engine is knocking.
The car is towed to a local dealership here in Vancouver called Curt Warner Chevrolet. Once at the dealer tears into the engine, they decide to deny the owners warranty. Their basis of the denial is because the tires are relatively worn out, in their words they said they were bald. They insist that the owner either over reved the engine or downshifted from a high speed into third gear, in their words "from at least 120 MPH" !! Mind you the car is from what I see bone stock, it doesn't even have a KN filter or headers.
When the customer went to pick the car up, he was told that his warranty is cancelled and that he would be getting something from GM in the mail to confirm that fact. The service writer her name is Cerita, tells him that she knows that he raced it, and that his car was a POS and he should have purchased a Cadillac. What is really funny is that they don't even sell Cadillacs at that dealer I have no idea as to why this person would say something like that, jeez what happened to common courtesy and customer relations.
The customer tows the car to me for inspection, Jeff & I look at it and the tires are far from bald. The look about right for a car with 18K miles. You know how these damn EMT tires on the vettes wear! The problem in the engine was that one, and I mean ONE valve spring broke which cause the valve to drop into the cylinder causing the piston to impale the valve back into the head. The piston wasn't damaged too much but it will require replacement.
I called the dealer that I work with on cases such as this. The car was towed there today and the shop calls me to assure me and the customer that the engine will be replaced under GM warranty at absolutely no cost to the customer! The service manager there tells me he has no idea why Warner would not or would attempt to F**K this customer over. Instead of gaining a new customer and some form of respect they will lose a customer and possibly more as a result. If you want good and fair service contact the Carr Auto Group in Portland. I assure you that they will do a good job. By the way Curt Warner the owner was a NFL player from I can't remember what team, but that is his claim to fame before becoming a Chevy dealer. When I was ahout to buy a new Z, I called them to see what they wanted for the one they had on their showroom floor, which they had and still have since May. It was going for 20k over sticker, but they told me I could have it for 10k over.....what a joke, now I am real glad that I didn't buy from them especially seeing what their customer service is like.
Curt Warner finished his NFL career with the Seahawks. Car Chevrolet is a good place for service...but to buy from, they also prey on the uneducated buyer. Suburban Chevrolet has always been fair with anyone I've talked with.
I'm glad to hear things worked out well for your customer!
Well done Tom. I wonder why they tried to screw this guy over anyway? Its not like its money out of their pocket, and maybe they could have cultivated a loyal customer.
As with any service company, you need to be firm with them. I had Carr Chevy "wash" my car (with what must have been a brillo pad) when it was in for service one time. The paint was never the same, despite their attempts to buff everything out. But hey, when your car eventually winds up under a tractor trailer rig, a little scratch in the paint becomes insignificant.

Curt Warner SUCKS. They ripped me off once. After that, I talked to one of the mechanics that worked on my truck. He reconized the truck when I was getting gas. HE told me he just quit, because of some of the stuff they was doing. He was afraid being caught in the middle and going to prison. They don't do honest business there. It's going to catch up to them one of these days. They will screw the wrong person over one time too many, and that will be the end of them.

He finished with the rams.
But it doesn't matter. His dealership has shown sucky customer service skills in the service dept and the sales dept.
I've had my own issues with them swapping out the oil in the ZR-1. The lube tech chastised me for being under the rack, but had I not been there they only would have put in 5 quarts (Full oil swap is 9).
I hate reading stuff like this. Man, GM wonders why they are sinking, this is why. I mean, I'm glad to be warned about a bad dealer (not the first tie we've been warned about Curt Warner) but I hate it that most of Chevy's dealers ARE bad.
I just had the best experience with Chaplin's in North Bend. I really did. Came here to post this and Oh Oh, here's a thread about a terrible dealer. And as I look around I see more bad than good. I don't think it's because we're reticent to post good stuff, I truly do think it's because there really are more bad than good dealers.
My list of Bad dealers around here is fairly long. My list of good dealers consists of one dealership. Shame on you, Chevrolet.
Good to hear that the customer got his engine covered under warranty. But he should call the GM Regional Office (not GM Customer Service) and tell them what experience he had and especially what the service writer "Cerita" told him. That was pretty far out of line for somebody to make a statement like that.

The Regional Office can deal with Curt Warner.
There is more, Curt Warner charged him to take the motor apart (probably the heads) to check what was wrong. Car Chev. is going to fix it under warranty, seems like Curt Warner should refund his money, and the comment that the woman made to him, totally out of line. I made a call today to Curt Warner to get their side of the of the story, and of course they had no comment, but they knew exactly what I was talking about. I would encourage the owner of the Z06 to call GM. This isn't the first Z that has had problems with the valve springs and dropping a valve.
I've been living in this area since before CW became CW and I've never heard anything good about them. I've been there a few times over the years and would definitely tell anyone asking to go anywhere else for service. They suck!

Currently I am at Carr Vancouver (A Pontiac & Caddilac dealership) checking on the car, the tech pulled the damaged spring off the rocker bolt and it broke into three seperate pieces. A motor has been shipped from GM and should be arriving Friday and the owner should be on the road early next week and a HAPPY & SATISFIED CUSTOMER
I live right down the street from them, and ever since they installed those mamouth speed bumps, I won't even drive in front of the place anymore. Seems kind of stupid to deterent people from driving in front of your dealership. I should go test drive one of there new Vettes and drive over them at about 40 mph. Matter of fact, I think we all should.

C6
I went there today to get some touch up paint for my 03 z. The parts guy had no idea what millenium yellow was. Holy Crap,, i was blown away!! The he asks me "Is that your car"? I say "yeah, why"? He responds "You don't look old enough to have a car like that"! (I am 36) I said "Thats what happens when you work hard your whole life"! What a joke!! I had to explain to him about the millenium yellow color. I test drove a beatup white 98 c5 w/78,000 miles on it a while back, just killing time. I scared the crap out of the little old salesman. I took him about 140 over the i205 bridge. He kept saying "WHOA, BE CAREFUL, LOTS OF COPS"! I kept telling him "Hold on"! I just wanted to see him squirm. hahaha! I dropped off the car and told him "No thanks, its too slow for me"! (i already had my 03 z06 at home in the garage hahaha!) That will teach them to mess with us.
