Default Time is Near

So I've been planning it for months - and things are finally materializing. On the 30th I'm dropping my car off at Wong's Performance Engineering, and having a good chunk of work done on it.

I'm getting pretty excited about it - and I can't wait to get my car back from him after the work and tune.

I'm going with a Heads & Cam swap and Dyno Tune!

Big comprehensive list of stuff:

Custom Cam 232/234 .595/.598 114LSA
Patriot Platinum Dual Springs, Seats, Seals & Ti Retainers, .650+ Lift
Hardened Pushrod Set 7.400" long
Hand Ported LS6 (243 Casting) Cylinder Heads (~275 CFM)
GM Hi Flow Oil Pump
LS6 Intake Manifold
LS6 Valve Covers & Gaskets
LS6 Coil Pack Brackets & Bolts
LS7 Lifters
LS2 Timing Chain
New timing Set Sprockets
NGK TR6IX Spark Plugs
160 Degree TStat

On the Drivetrain I've already installed a few things:

DTE Long Tube Headers Hi Flow Cats & X-Pipe
B&B Bullet Exhaust
VaraRam CAI
DTE 4.10 Rear Differential
LS6 Clutch
and BFG KDW II's all around.

I base lined (w/o the VaraRam) at 323hp and 335 rwtq on Tom's Mustang dyno, with my '97 M6 Coupe. I'm hoping to see at least a 70-80 whp Gain from the ported LS6 heads and Cam... I'll post my results when i get them... around 16 days from now! I'm counting! LOL

What's your cam Spec? Did you do ported heads, etc also?

435 whp on Tom's Mustang dyno is pretty good...

I'm hoping to get somewhere over 400...

It is a LPE Gt-1 229/242 631 lift 114LSA, Tom installed 243 heads, (Comp springs) that were ported, ported my intake (LS6), LS7 lifters, hardened push rods,30#ford racing injectors, stock TB. LT headers, vararam which isnt a factor on the dyno. Yah he and I were really surprised. Muai, is going in tomorrow to install the same cam on his C6

So I dropped my car off at Tom's last night... It's weird just leaving it somewhere... and handing someone the keys... But i'm sure she's in good hands. I can't wait to see the results!

I'm going to be in Missouri visiting my GF the whole weekend - i won't be back until late Wednesday. Then i have to work the whole day Thursday before i can drive down and pickup my car. I'm going to be freaking out the whole time - i know it...

I'll be sure to pop on here and post the results!

Initially it looked like it was gonna rain on the 6th - but now the weather guys are saying 75-85 and Sunny!!! Perfect!

Tom, you keep doing all of these H/C installs, and we are going to have to change your name from TJWONG to HCWONG.

Alrighty - I got the car back last night. Here's my results:

The cam sacrificed a little bit of drive ability, but not a lot. Tom did an excellent job tuning it, so it's very smooth. There is a little buck really low in the revs, but that is to be expected from a cam like this. Overall I'd say the car is perfectly adequate as a daily driver (which it is...). The sound changed a lot too - it's a little raspier (i guess thats the word) the higher compression and significantly different cam profile creates a much sharper 'brappy' sound and it reminds me of a C5R.

The Lope
is perfect. Nice and choppy at idle - but not too bad, and it gets into a stumbling rhythm every now and again, which sounds good.
The Idle is around 900 RPM and maybe a little higher with AC on. I noticed when i'm cruising through parking lots in and out of the clutch a lot at low speed - it tends to hang out around 1500 rpms... and after a few seconds it'll settle into ~900.

The Power is awesome. It made 400whp and 362wtq, which is exactly what i wanted. And it didn't sacrifice much (if any) torque overall. Below is my dyno sheet comparing my baseline with just Intake and Full Exhaust, and no Tune. You can see that from 2500 RPMs and greater this cam is making more Torque than stock. And Really comes alive around 3500 on up. I may have lost some torque down below 2500 but thats fine w/ me. On Average, across the whole curve i gained 40hp and 30lb-ft of torque, and at peak i gained 77 whp and 27 wtq.

(Sorry it may be a little small - but you get the idea.)

Tom did great work - and I wanted to thank him again!!

Hey Dan, Congrats on the new found power. You will get used to the different feel at low rpms, and it will seem like it was stock, except for the great sound. Sometimes I just go out and start it and listen to the lope. You can really see how the cam and heads work if you can do a track day some where. When I did a track day, Any stock C5 C6 or C5 Z06, just pulled them on the straight or out of a corner, with no problem at all. I looked in the rear view mirror and I sware it said, "Objects in the rear are losing"
