Default Shop recommendation for windshield replacement on my '02 Z06

Like the title said, I am looking for a good shop to replace the windshield on my '02 Z06. Anybody had good experiences with a local glass shop, and if so what did it cost you?

Thanks in advance!

It would help if you gave your location. If you are in or around the Everett Area Professional Glass did a great job on my 96 and also my Audi TT Roadster. Good luck, Rkt

Sorry - I am in Redmond, but can go pretty much anywhere between Everett and Olympia...

From my days as the former meneger of Pilkington (old LOF) I can recommend eastside Auto Glass in Issaquah. They will get you OEM level glass (either Pilkington or PPG). Do not use Chinese imported glass. They will also install it correctly.

Josh, keep in mind the Z06 glass is a special piece. It's a bit thinner than the regular glass.

The below thread gave me lots of good info too, I will be sure to order the Z06 glass. If I were willing to add a couple pounds to my car would it be better off to get the more durable coupe glass?

Don't let Safelite in Bellevue do it! It took them 3 windshields to get mine done right. But now I have a Z06 windshield.

weren't you telling me that the lighter Z06 windshield was a marketing scheme and they were the same thing?

$600 for a few pounds difference? Hell - you'll add that much weight to your car just by eating a big dinner... not sure that's worth the money right there....

pretty much what I am figuring, I especially like the part of being more resistant to starring and cracking... I'll just make sure to take a good duke before track days to make up for it...

Good info. Heck you're still ahead because you dropped some weight and added a few horses with your headers

There's an interesting thread I just found on the C5Z forum:

yeah, I've been watching that thread too...

I lost some weight with the corbeau seats too, so I don't think a couple pounds for a stronger windshield is a big deal...

Not for the cost. I think 10 lb's equal to about 1 HP.

I noticed that the bottom windshield rubber seal is coming out on my car. Can this be put back in without taking the glass out?

Maybe this is a good time to upgrade to a real HUD windshield so I can get rid of my double vision on my HUD.

I have a Pilkinngton windshield, and my HUD has double vision. Since the windshied is actually two pieces of glass sandwich together, I am pretty sure it's the glass that is doing it, and not the HUD.

In my day Pilk made 60% or more of GM's OEM glass. Their brand name should be the same. I'd ask for a replacement. I'm told there is a difference between HUD and non HUD glass. Not sure of that but it used to be. Who'd you get the glass from?

I checked ... there is no special 'lightweight" glass for the C-5 Z06. There is special glass for HUD.

On the Z06 only, both the windshield and backlite have been thinned to save weight. But resistance to stone chipping has been maintained. A total of 5.7 pounds was eliminated. There is cabin quietness as a result. Reducing the Z06's overall weight, boosting its power output by 40 hp, and broadening its operating range, made a significant improvement in the car's power-to-weight ratio. All told, Z06 is the lightest Corvette 38 pounds lighter than the former hardtop, 99 pounds lighter than the 2001 coupe and 95 pounds lighter than the 2001 convertible at just 3115 pounds.
