Safety Car
Hey
I was there last month... I went with the guy who has the Black 66 Coupe... I should have my Marina Blue 67' ready to go by the next Mr Wash. There are several Vettes stationed at Ansbach/Illeshiem, so we are going to try to start our own club...
Just some ideas we are kicking around...
PM me if you want details.
Cheers

I just came across this forum and it brings back memories of my two tours in Germany, 1979-1982 and 1984-1991. On my s cond tour I took my 1984 Corvette and shipped it back to the US at the end of tour. I also had a 1984 VW Gti that I traded to a fellow soldier for a 1974 Corvette, so with two Vette's at the time, I had a real good time. Took the 84 everywhere in Germany to include the Nurburgring. There were not many Vette's around at that time but with fellow soldiers and friends that had American cars we had our own shows and gatherings. We used to go to Kaiserslautern(K-town) for " Cars are the stars" show every year. Also we gathered in Furth next to the Army Kasern to eat gyros and pizza( Napoli Pizza ) I wish I could go back and drive the Autobahn again like in the old days

The gyros and pizza are still here, but not many of the bases...
Wurzburg, Bamholder, Kitzingen, Schweinfurt... the list is pretty big. Even the Rec centers at Chimsee and Bad Tolz are gone... and we are giving 1/2 of Garmisch back as we speak.
Its changed quite a lot in the 18 years of our overseas assignment.
Still, a great place though. Lots of fest, good food and beer, and the women are soft on the eyes!
