I plan to ship my Vette to England next spring when I get re-assigned there, and I have a question on legal window tints. The windows were already tinted when I bought the car used, and they're too dark to be legal here in SD. I had a shop measure them at 13% and I was going to have them redo the sides with a lighter tint (32%). What's legal in the UK, and how picky are they during the SVA inspection?
The law states that you have to have 75% light emittance through the side windows.Which is virtually no tint at all.I would suggest that you remove the tint from the side glass before you get here(I take you are service personnel?)Have the car SVA,and then find a good tint shop afterwards to apply new tint.Most Police dont bother with stopping a car with tints.Unless they are complete black outs.Its worth taking the chance.I have had dark tints on my TVR for four years and never been stopped by the police.
