Thinking about shiping the 'vette over, and doing Le Mans this year. Any ideas which port would be the best to ship to, and how to get there from the nearest airport. I'd like to get there early and drive the Nurburgring, too.

If I go by myself I plan on shipping to Bremerhaven. I think the C5/C6 Registry ships their cars to Antwerp Belgium. I've contacted the C5/C6 Registy and waiting to hear back.....
I was wondering if LeHavre might not be a lot closer to LeMans.
But if I do go, I want to drive the Nurburgring and maybe do the Normandy drive with the Germany club.

I posted the even schedule from the German American corvette club. It would be easier to pick the car up in Germany and drive the 5 or 6 hours to meet up with them in Germany. And then follow them to Normandy, Paris, the race, etc...
I'm thinking about keeping my car at my grandmother's house and flying back july 4th weekend for the FAME show in the Netherlands. You can do the same if you want.
are you going by yourself??? I would say spend 3 or 4 weeks there. First week is spent visiting Paris, Normandy, the race. Tuesday - Friday 19 -22nd you can run the ring. Saturday the 23rd is the largest corvette show in Europe in Heidelberg at the hockenheimring. You can race your car on that track as well. You see the Hockenheimring on Speed vision all the time. Now you can saw you've driven it. After that keep your car at my grandmother's house and fly back. Then fly back July 2nd and follow the Club up to the Netherlands for the fame show. On the way back drop your car off at the port and go home. E. H. Hames has a drop off location right by Frankfurt airport and they will trailer your car to the port for a few hundred dollars.
you can keep your car in germany for 1 year and drive around on your US passport. AFter one year you have to leave germany for xxx number of days and then come back if you want.
The owner of MOVIT suggested I call ABX. He shipped a car over for $600 a few years ago. I'll give them a call closer to the event because prices for 2007 haven't been locked in yet.
We also need to talk about getting you a set of MOVIT brakes BEFORE you go over there. And that new Callaway 560 package.
AAAAAHHHHHHHH!
I just bought the db meter, but still have to do the measurement.
Preliminaries look close...
As for the S/C 560 package, Margaret's pushing the LeMans trip for my 55th birthday, but if I did the S/C too, I might not make it to 56.

You should be very happy during that last year of your life!
First you need to get your plans straight, then you can figure out where to ship your car. I hope I can make it to Le Mans this year again.
Definately come to Hockenheim. Lots of different race classes to enter and watch. From the full track to auto-x and dragracing.
Been thinking about it all the time now. Can't wait to get back on the track.
The rate limiting step of my planning will be the shipping. Depending on port, transit time and price, I'll be able to finalise what I'm doing a lot better. I'd like to at least do the events with the German Corvette club ( Normandy, Paris, LeMans ), and depending on what options are available on the shipping home, maybe do the Hockenheim thing.

If you want to do all of it, I think it would be best to ship to France. I'd think your best bet would be shipping the car to Le Havre, doing Normandy then Le Mans. The weekend after Le Mans is Hockenheim. Just try to get to the Nurburgring in that week. From the Nurburgring to Hockenheim is a 2 hour drive. Some really nice driving roads in the Eifel. Do Hockenheim, really worth it. Then drive up to Bremerhafen and ship the car back...

Hey Rob, how do you get it licensed (if at all) to drive if you are not EUSAREUR? Does it still have to go through customs, etc etc? I ask because I might pick up a Z06 if my LT1 is not ready and take it straight to the race before bringing it home to Germany for military registration (I might be coming home from Iraq just a week before the race). I might coordinate with you to get the car on the same shipping company and same boat if thats possible.
Sure... where is the car? If it's close to VA I can check it out for you before you buy it.
As for the license issue... I was told by german customs that I can drive with US plates for one year with a US passport. I'm still looking for insurance, double sided green card.
Rob,
Im shopping around for one online right now from Iraq...if I find one that I like in your area I'll let you know...let me know when you plan to ship yours so I can time it right!
Our club group (21 vettes) is heading to Le Mans this year and plan to go to Ring after that...and now we are thinking of joining the CEM.
But to who should we inform that we are coming?
Are all of the cars allowed to the track/strip/autox?
Would it be ok to arrive on Saturday? ...as we would want to maximize our time on Ring in case of bad weather..
And where are people staying at?
