Have they gained enough that we can look for the end of being pushed to buy what we don’t want, that would be great.

When you say "pushed", I think of foreign wars for resources, massive tax subsidies, import taxes out the nose, various models not legal for US sales, etc. and even gas powered vehicles are not past that, yet.
