What other cars would you consider if buying a 2024 C8
#41
The problem is there is no comparable car in the price range. I was looking at 911 and here they start at 150,000 but configured reasonably about 170,000 and MB SL Roadster that base is about 217,000. So I saved about $100,000 with C8. Even BMW M4 is $115,000

An M4 isn't $115k. A near fully optioned M4 coupe is about $85k if comparing to an equally optioned Stingray. If you bump up to the M4 Competition X-drive, nicely equipped is $95k and has more features than a 3LT SR at the same price.

M4 w ccf brakes and full option hits 113kish. Crazy. And you'd be doing that for a 6 cylinder that sounds, well, like a 6 cylinder. I'd rather drive an ev at that point like the i5 m60. I'm on my local dealerships list and "should" get allocation late next month. A Decked out w frozen is running 97. Remove frozen and exterior cf and down to 93, if dapp isn't your thing you're now down to 90.5 (with 21s. 20s would drop it another k). Not bad considering what this car can do. Plus the ev is a nice balance to the v8 :p

I’m getting to a point at work where I have less free time so I am moving away from having a lot of old Euro cars that I have to work on myself. I’m selling a 23yo Jaguar XKR and a 15yo Maserati Granturismo and just keeping a 16yo XKR that’s been awesome.
The C8 is just going to be less needy than most of its peers and that’s what I’m looking for now. It’s great in terms of performance, style and reliability, and I’m not seeing what really would be competition in the space for my use.

I'd take the i4 m50 over the i5 m60 personally. Equipped pretty much the same the i5 is $17k more than an i4 and offers the same performance. Like Chevy does with the Z06, charges more for the same options.

C8 replaced my F-Type R which was a blast! Can easily get them from carmax with a 5 year warranty bumper to bumper. I had the first year coupe (15) which was RWD and hydraulic power steering. Highly recommend a test drive from carmax, you can always return it in a few minutes or a couple days, however long it takes you to decide!

Sure optioning one out to the hilt with carbon bucket seats for $4500 and carbon ceramic brakes brings the price up, but those options aren't available on a Stingray. So apples to apples (as close as we can get) the M4 is less than $100k even with awd.

Have a 24 on order but having a bit of fun looking at other cars until my build comes up (hopefully nov)....question is if you were buying a new c8 in 2024 and it was a C8 z51 vs ______ what would you be looking at? It needs to be in the same price range (70-110K) and not up against the z06....other cars can be "used" but the model year needs to be within the last 5....
I have considered
2022 tesla plaid (stupid fast, actually made me nauseous, and literally no soul)
2022 mustang gt500 (spin baby spin....but its still a mustang at the end of the day)
2023 BMW m4 xdrive comp (i have a 2019 M4 so basically the same car with a little differnt look...love the real back seat and can honestly push the c8 - faster top end)
2019 c7 Z06 (just bc...m7, last of a dying breed)
....what else would you guys look at!

C8 convertible (no options) is $98,917.
M4 convertible (no options) is $113,739.10
An M8 is almost twice the price of C8.

I have owned or own all of the above except the Audi would only want it in RWD. I could spend hours telling you the good and bad about each one but as a total package the C8 is hard to beat though after reading the post from those who would not own a C8 without mag ride most of these other cars mentioned would not be a good choice for many.

The three main setbacks for the exports are price, scarcity of dealers, and the missing V8 but are a plus with the manual transmissions.

Seriously considered an Evora GT or Emira, but the closest dealer is an hour away in Jersey, and it’s a single tech at a Jeep dealership. While it is most certainly a better drivers car than the C8, it can’t hold my golf clubs and reliability is a concern. :-)

I have an Evora 400 (gearshift) and Algar Ferrari has done the work on it. I assume you mean the Jeep dealer near Princeton, if so, I went to talk with them when I was looking for mine (bought it in Ohio and had it shipped here. I would not have trusted them with my car after talking to their people. It is a great driver's car no doubt and I have been on the Emira list for a while, but I think I might just keep the Evora.

Considered Lotus Emira with V6, manual setup but the lack of a Lotus dealership nearby me makes it tough. Also trying to get one at MSRP is unlikely.
Used or new Cayman S or GTS, but honestly, the older GTS I drove (340hp) was a bit underwhelming.
Finally, if I wasn't in a C8 now, I'd be in a used Nissan GTR. It is amazing on the track.

C8 PROS (EMIRA CONS):
EMIRA PROS (C8 CONS):
The length of each list isn't as important as the merit in each respective item. Despite Emira having only four pros, all four are heavy hitters which made my decision tough. Regarding Emira vs Cayman vs C8: It's rock-paper-scissors where C8 and Emira are both scissors and Cayman is the paper.
- Availability/affordability/faster shipping of maintenance parts
- 1st year gremlins mostly sorted
- More accessible dealership network
- Value - C8 is cheaper in US vs UK whereas Emira is cheaper in UK vs US
- C8 is also tuned for average American roads where I'll mostly be driving (not as much in twisties) whereas Emira suspension is tuned for average British roads which are very different so I'll get more out of the C8 vs Emira in terms of engineering intent
- Larger supercar proportions give it more aggressive road presence
- If your car will be purchased, driven, and maintained in America, C8 makes more sense for those 3 aspects
EMIRA PROS (C8 CONS):
- More elegant flowing body lines
- Manual
- More exotic/rare
- More engaging, agile, direct, and visceral driving feel

5 years old and newer is tough.
Good handling, good acceleration, no 3rd pedal, does t cost over $100k. Hrm.....
ZL1, GT500, maybe a used 911 if you could find one. Sounds like the vehicle is more for cruising around so Anything with a comfy seat.

I have a friend pushing me to try a porsche, I even visited the local dealer....... super nice dude wanted to help me and get me a few demo drives I just cannot get over the shape. And I thought the corvette crowd was grey!!!!
I've been on a dealers waitlist for over a year for a blackwing. I used him before and he's at msrp. Small allocations thus the wait. I miss rowing and thought the BW would hold its value because its the last of its kind. I'm seeing used BWs going for a significant depreciation hit like 20K.
The C8 has me spoiled as I've had 3 and made money on the 2 I sold. Paying $110K for a cadi and seeing it worth 85 a year later...... nature of Cadillac..... its how life use to be...... but the C8 stuff was wild.

Yes, my first Corvette. Almost bought a C3 a long time ago and was ready to get one in the C7 generation, but I did not like how the C7 looked when it came out. When the C8 came out, it was a no-brainer.
