Cross Shopping a C7 with a 6th Gen Camaro
Hi everyone,
I was pretty dead set on a C7 to upgrade to from my c5 base auto. I like the looks of my C5 a LOT, but I drive it daily and the interior feel and frankly crappy 4 speed auto are leaving the key component of having a fun car lacking. I'm looking for more engagement, and a bit more refinement.
While looking at C7's, the camaro caught my eye. I'm looking at a new 2SS 1LE. Same engine, comes in 6pd, and the 1le package seems to bring it very close to a C7 in driving characteristics. My concerns about it are as follows:
1. Its not a vette, I see camaros on the road a lot (lose some exclusivity)
2. I like it's looks, but the C7 is a clear winner in the looks dept
3. Visibility is a common complaint
4. C7 from a performance standpoint is still better at pretty much everything even though the camaro is very close
Pros:
1. I can buy a NEW 2ss 1le for around the same price as a used 2LT Z51 C7
2. Backseat, while VERY small, should be able to accommodate 2 car seats for my young kids for short trips
3. The backseats MIGHT make it possible for my family to downsize to 2 cars rather than the 3 we have now
4. The performance is very well regarded with the same engine, very good 6spd, and stellar reviews on handling
5. More good tech. In addition to the heated seat goodies, it has the same camera rearview that the C8 has, better pdr etc.
When it comes down to it, I feel like I would never regret getting the C7 but I COULD see myself regretting the camaro over it.
Has anyone driven both that can help sway me either way?

Lots of good points. If taking your family is key the Camaro wins out and why I am also getting something I can actually put the kiddo in the back seat of.
I'd rather have a new Camaro SS 1LE than a used C7 Stingray. New, warranty, no farts from prior owners.....etc
I wouldn't say the C7 has any exclusivity and though the Camaro is a popular car it's a great vehicle.
No wrong answer.

I'm 6'1" and 200+ and I wiggled into the backseat of a 2016 Camaro SS. Couldn't sit because my head would be through the roof. It would be tough, but little kids probably would be alright.

What ages are your kids and how short are you? I looked into a ZL1 and the Camaro may as well be a 2 seater with kids that aren't gonna climb back there on their own, and for anyone over 6 foot.
That said, if you're in a position to buy a toy 3rd car and your wife is ok with it, don't even waste time looking at a Camaro and get what you want while she's down with it. She's gonna want you to downsize into 2 practical family vehicles before you know it.

Cooperative forward facing kids, probably would fit. Rear facing or uncooperative kids? No effing way.

I have set in the Camaro haven't driven the newer models though (had plenty of 3rd and 4th gen cars though). The Camaro is a cool car but you really do see them everywhere. A vette is much cooler and still has head turning factor plus its incredible to drive. We have a C5 and a C7 and love both for different reasons.
If it were me i would purchase the C7 in your instance, or even a new V series Cadillac before i would buy the Camaro.

I personally think the C7 is ugly so I vote Camaro…even though I’m not a fan of their looks either lol.

True. Guess i was thinking about my own situation where a CT4 V or CT5 V (not BW) would be a nice DD in addition to the C5 and C7.

When I was getting ready to sell my 2011 Camaro SS I was considering buying my forth Camaro... A brand new 2SS convertible for $55k. Instead I bought a 2019 C7 3lt convertible instead for $55k.
Honestly I'm still glad a year later I bought the used Vette. The Vette is a better looking car, faster and the back seats are useless on a Camaro anyway.

Maybe this? Back seat is not great. The 5.0/10 speed auto is sweet. It's a 2020. Bought it used with 20K on it last October. Yeah the plastic hood scoop is gone. Traded our 14 GT vert with a 5.0/6 speed combo. Got tired of shifting.

Here's my stance on it; they're being discontinued and I personally think the Camaro is ugly so I vote Challenger, if not a C7.…..I’m a big fan of their crazy good looks. Both of em!
