Best HEV for the money? Hyundai Elantra?
Looking for an HEV similar to Hyundai Elantra HEV for my kids to share. Elantra's are hard to find and dealer is asking for $3K markup, plus some other junk fees making the out the door price over $38K. Any other similar vehicle anyone would recommend that are not so hard to find these days? Prefer new but willing to look at used too.
Also, anyone know what if any tax break I'd get for buying an HEV? Does it have to be new to get the tax break?

I would not trust anything from Korea.. Both Kia and Hyundai have had allot of issues EV and non lately.
The New Prius looks good and more power.

Back when I was a working man I ran a call center with just under 100 agents. Kia and Hyundai were common choices for 13 dollar an hour workers. They held up poorly. Seats split, handles broke, ***** came off, things like that. In fact, I finally bought a battery jump box so I didn't have to keep using my car for jump starts. I was not impressed, but admittedly that was almost ten years ago. Maybe they are better now, but I would talk to some actual owners before making a decision. (No, I don't believe what I read on the interweb!)

Oh, and my wife had a Prius before we were married. She loved it because her sole criteria for a "good car" is gas mileage. Handled like a ripe banana but in ten years of ownership not one dime was spent on it outside of regular maintenance and consumables like tires and wiper blades. (My wife is a CPA and kept all her records...I looked thru them and was quite impressed) However, at the ten year mark the main battery required replacement to the tune of nearly $4000. People forget, in their rush to green energy, that ALL batteries fail. And a replacement battery for a Nissan Leaf all electric car is like $23,000! What is that going to do for the resale of your hybrid or electric vehicle? Just remember that going in.
