I have to admit that owning a Shelby Mustang has always been a lifelong dream for me since a guy I worked with at my High School Supermarket job in 1976 gave me a ride home in his 67 GT500 before I had my driver's license...

What Ford does very well is make cars feel more special than their specs and performance are.
Boss 302 felt incredibly special but was pretty much better flowing parts and 4.10 gears. GT350 isn't all that fast but feels insanely special, even though the engines explode or whatever. I'm sure gt500 feels more special than it's portly weight would imply. Ford GT, SVT Lightning, the list goes on and on, Ford makes cars that transcend the sum of their parts.

I have never owned a Mustang before so have no comparison. However, as I said in my post, the GT 500 is disappointing.
Please explain your enjoyment. Street driving for me is no fun, the car feels heavy. As far as speed is concerned, you need wide open road if you want to hit the supercharger as opposed to just coming onto a freeway. To get the supercharger you need to use manual or otherwise, put your foot to the floor. I compare all this to driving a 2010 Cadillac CTS V and a 2017 Z06. These latter cars were instant action. Thank you for a response.

Dark horse model is supposed to be higher HP than the outgoing gt350.
I like this car and glad to see a MT 500HP+ V8 even if it is a mustang. Might pick one up to go next to the vette since it’s probably the last of these engines we will see.

I appreciate the input. A friend owns one and he "loves it". I will see him next week and see how he drives it.
I am not used to forcing high rpms for torque. As mentioned, the prior Z06 and CTSV just needed a nudge.
If, as you suggest, I need to be running around in manual and keep the revs at around 5,000, that is a new way of driving for me.
I race cars and never have raced or driven a car as sluggish as this car at lower rpms.
Again, thank you for the help.

6.2 pushrod with a pansy *** blower will be torquey down low. 5.2 DOHC with a larger blower makes more upper RPM power.
I haven't heard anyone else, like you, who tracks that consider the GT500 sluggish at any speed.

The C8's biggest advantage is the mid engine design, it can do more with less hp. There is approx 750 + lbs over the rear tires, so if anything you should feel good about the underdog. Now beyond 90 mph it could use some more dark horses to help out .

I know a few guys who track full blown ex factory support cars and they absolutely love their GT500's. They too say it's heavy but the transmission is spot on and the cars handle fantastic. I wish I could comment further but they seem to enjoy the cars and have a lot of praise for them.
I wanted, still want one, but I won't pay $20k over MSRP for any car.

The new mustang dark horse is awesome. Im not a ford guy yet ford did a great job.
if I wanted a 2 plus 2 instead of a dedicated 2 seat sports car Id look at the new s650 mustang dark horse very hard.
hopefully the vehicle offers amazing performance.
buy low optioned darkhorse for lighter weight.
