Model S Plaid Revealed

Zero character with the Tesla’s. Yes very quick auto with a huge screen to glance at but where is the engagement? Firing up the 8 and taking it to redline shifting DCT option is gone. Heavy high tech zero sound is fun beyond the launch? Great commuters is what these are but the passion is missing. Enjoy the driver engagement time we have left before the autonomous driving option takes over. Also tired of the save the planet lecture that typically comes with any anti tesla post.

In the name of climate change, how is this being allowed?!

People can either get with the future or keep on hating when they see vids of their beloved high end sport cars losing roll races to tech nerds on Youtube. Just watch the guy who posted last year in his C8 when he comes up on the Tesla and it destroys him 3x in a row from a roll race. It's pretty funny.

I still have my C7Z sitting in the garage at 850hp....and with the C8 sitting next to the C7Z...my Tesla P3 had to move outside after I purchased the C8 last April. What I missed about my P3 after selling is that it was very simple to jump in and drive to work or the store, I didn't have to worry about it in the parking lot, if I got tired on my drive home I would put it in Full Self Driving Mode to take the ease off the commute. If I wanted to leave from a stop fast I didn't have to worry about everybody hearing me do it. If some new Mustang GT, Dodge Hellcat, or C7 pulled up along side of me...rev'ing it's engine because of insecurity...I would leave it where it was at when the light turned green. The only C8 that ever pulled up along my C8 was the one I owned, and unless it was in launch control...it wasn't going to beat my P3 from 0-60. P3 will do 0-60 in 2.9-3.1 the entire trip without even putting it in track mode. Now with the Model S Plaid....everybody from Bugatti, Ferrari, Porsche, or Vette are going to know not to mess with a 4 door sedan on the street or the track that will run an easy mid-9 sec 1/4 mile and do 200 mph. I kept my C7Z...and maybe if the C8 actually doesn't something more spectacular other than look cool and do 0-60 in 2.6 seconds. I may buy another one.

Nothing to be excited about except some quick track times...I couldn't care less how quick they are.

Thought that car was "cancelled"? Pretty sweet numbers. I think the hot ticket is going to be the first, legit, (performance) electric conversion kit. One that's not too expensive and worth the hassle. Probably a battery breakthrough or two away from that. But then, who knows which platform will take the power better. Probably a microbus or something nobody is expecting. The electric-revolution is coming, sooner or later..

That’s great, but why did this get moved to the C8 Z06/ZR1 section and not the other cars forum?
I wonder what kind of real world results will be achievable with the Plaid S and what the rest of the industry will build.
I feel like Tesla’s days of being the only game in town are rapidly approaching their end with the EPA regulations etc, will be interesting to see how it all plays out.
Whats this car cost with no options checked, what about the one pictured above (roadster)? That’s a good looking car.

I guess they wanted that sub 2.0 worse than they wanted the truth. Car's still fast, but 1.99 0-60 is bullshit.

Cars are so fast now that it’s stupid. Twenty years ago as a young enthusiast I cared about a few tenths here and there. These days the cars I get most excited about are far from the fastest. I feel the same way about the super Model S variants as I do about cars like the M5 Comp - notably slower than a Plaid but still a low to mid 135 in the 1/4 if you just mash your foot. I’ve driven these cars. Awesome? Yes. Fast? Absolutely. Ridiculously so. Made me smile and laugh at the insanity. But also not for me for the long haul.
I’d much rather have an old Elise or new Evora GT,a 911 GT3, 458…. Speaking of - a 488 spanks a 458 but they’re worth nearly the same used. They’re plenty fast. The 458 offers more. And just on the outer edge of “usably fast”. Lots of people care about more than just all out power and speed.
Show off joy ride or open highway road trip I’ll take a car like a Plaid Model S any day. Car to own and LOVE? I’ll pass on the big rocket ship stuff. Plaid Teslas and Bugattis too. Call me old school.
I find that the vast majority of the Tesla fanatics are new to being car enthusiasts and not particularly knowledgeable or experienced with what all is out there. So they’re the way I was when I was a new enthusiast. “It’s the fastest! It can beat a Ferrari for way less money!” But then you go and drive a bunch of stuff and find out that being the newest and fastest is not all there is.
I’m glad Tesla is pushing the envelope and I could see myself owning one at some point. I just don’t dream about them.

this technology needs to go in a hybrid vette, 3600 lbs that will do that all day. Would you still think it's old tech?
step into ludicris mode and hold on! Nothing wrong with alternative power, but optimize it for the task at hand, tearing up the road and handling well
the plaid should be spelled "played" Testla keeps spinning out the same old ugly crap with more power at nose bleed costs
Waiting is the nearest ditch for the battery laden plow. I'm not all all adverse to advancing tech, but make it look better!!
only think ludicris about the testla is the poor service, questionable company, and shoddy parts that total a whole car.
bullet proof, gee, maybe not!!

This is hilarious - all wailing and gnashing of teeth by the old farts who cant stand change is so bewildering.
Dont like the Tesla? Dont buy it, but the desperation to prove to everyone why the Tesla isn't a great car is sad.
Tesla's are awesome cars that are brutally fast, handle like a slot car, and have wild and ahead o f the curve technology.

Every major publication uses rollout as well as every drag strip, it's a standard these days.

Then they shouldn't call it 0-60. Reminds me of AT&T "*Unlimited data" plan.
