Changing rear shocks, jacking/support points.
I wanted to change the rear shocks on my occasional use minivan.
The videos I've watched make the process look relatively simple.
After installing the top bolts, there were a few instances where the bottom part of shock extended past the lower mounting bracket.
With some shocks, they were able to compress the shock by hand but other shocks were too stiff.
This is where I was a little confused.
To get the shock to line up with the mounting bracket, they would lift the car but in some cases they would do it by the frame and in other cases they would do it by the axle.
Which is the proper method or does it not make a difference?

When I do my shocks, I use a floor jack to compress it and then just finagle it in with a screwdriver

I would jack it up using the rear end then put jack stands under the frame. Then you can use the jack to help get the shocks in place. Seems simple to me
