2016 Chevrolet SS or Cadillac ATS/CTS?
For my DD. For the money, $47,000 will get you an older platform 2016 SS (same as the 5th gen Camaro), but with the 415 hp/415 tq LS3, manual transmission, and a manly exhaust sound . The interior is nice enough, exterior is definitely a sleeper. I like it.
To get anywhere near SS performance in the Caddy, the price differential is significant. The V series is way out of my budget. Interior blows the SS away. So it comes down to whether I can live with a much nicer-interior, and exterior, car, with so-so performance vs. a sleeper sedan with plenty of room, not to mention all the options I'd want (magnetic shocks, parallel parking, vertical parking, lane departure warning, blah blah).
So for about $47,000, which would you choose for a RWD, manual trans, performance oriented car? I don't want a used car. I did look at the SRT offerings, but they don't come with a manual transmission, so those are off my list. Any other cars that I didn't consider?
Thanks,

SS as it will have a higher resale value.
-SS is a low production vehicle
-manual v8, even lower production
-2015/2016 likely last year of production with no successor in line
-V8, manual and RWD
-do it

Subaru WRX STI Limited
Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution
BMW 340i 6 Speed M
Audi S4 ($49k)
All come in manual. Hard to find a sedan these days that does.

except the new Gen 6 is out now, 223lb lighter, 450hp and I believe it's 42k for the 2SS....

except that the original poster isn't talking about the Camaro...I had a similar choice as the original poster and am happy with my SS...the V-Sport let alone the V is so much more money but it is a nicer platform...still the SS is very nice...

THE DISCOUNTS ON THE VERY COOL BUT SLOW SELLING CHEVY SS SHOULD BRING THE ACTUAL TRANSACTION PRICE WAY OFF 47 grand.
keep shopping and find the correct actual transaction pricing ...
I saw it on the road and thought it was pretty good looking for a v8 RWD sedan.
They are slow out of the showrooms so I'd target at least 20 percent off....brand new...

I don't know anyone getting anywhere near 20% off but you should have no issue getting 10% off and perhaps a couple $K more if you work it...low mileage used one's are still selling near or at $40K

OP here:so I've had a change of heart.
2016 SS very hard to find with a manual, I contacted 4 dealers to order one, none would negotiate. Too many automatic, in black, and I don't want a black car this time. Anyways, I've found some spare coins under the couch, and am very close to picking up a 2016 ATS-V sedan (I have a thing for sporty 4-door). Most are automatic as well, but I found this white/black manual trans on a dealer lot, and they're willing to deal to move it out of their inventory. They only have 2 ATS-V, the other one is black, auto trans. There's also a black badass CTS-V, but it's also an auto, and costs much more than the ATS-V. Deal should be done in a few days.

I was very close to buying a new SS when they first came out...it was that or a pre-owned CTS-V. Ended up with a 2012 CTS-V sedan that was a year old with 5k miles on it. It was probably the best car I've ever owned!! I just traded it in for a 2014 Audi S6. I again checked out the SS. The Audi even though a pre-owned CPO car with 4K miles on it was way more than the SS.
I love the SS and it has the best value per dollar. The V series Cadillacs are just off the charts. I was shopping for a CTS-V Sport as well. The ATS has amazing balance and power. For the money it is the best car on the market! Hope ya got one and if you did post some pics!

I daily drive a 2015 SS sedan and it is a blast. Be warned though no one will know what it is, I can't count the number of times I have had people come up to me and ask "SS what?" or "GM makes a Malibu SS now?"
Though it never gets old to see the looks on peoples faces when a Malibu sounds like a Corvette.
I had a 2015 Challenger R/T get surprised by the SS he came up to me afterwards and asked "Does that have the corvette engine!? What is it doing in a Malibu?!"
and if you really want to mess with people tell them it is a Chevelle SS
