Look at the first numbers in the equation, 0.34 and 0.36. Those represent the drag coefficient of the vehicles. The statement posed a few posts before mine suggests that the GT500 is not aerodynamic, when in fact it's CD is only about 5% more than the Z06. Either way, the car is capable of speeds over what a base C6 does and right next to a Z06 up top

I did 196.5MPH in my stock 09 Z06 at the Mojave Magnum, a standing start 1 1/2 mile event at 2600' with 80*+ temps. The traps were set up 132' before the finish and at the finish. I had a good tail wind.

This month's R&T got the 2013 GT500 at 12.3 sec at "about" 120 MPH and said Ford claimed 11.7 at 135 MPH.

Outstanding. So a stock Z06 achieves 196.5 mph in less than 8000 feet, (in warm weather), but it takes a GT500 over twice the distance (17,000 feet) to get to 200 mph.

A rep tells us the Shelby needs about 17,000 feet of tarmac to hit top speed, and that the SVT team used one of the world's largest test tracks, the Nardo Ring in southern Italy, to confirm the 200-mph claim.

It was.

The perspective was that the 1st pass at 189 MPH was slow

Of six runs, three were over 195 MPH and the car was stable with no aftermarket aero. I do have two-piece lightweight front rotors and also ran M PSS in the stock sizes, they hooked up very well.

I think I remember reading a magazine that got the Z06 over 200mph comparing it with a 458 Italia.

If the video shows his driving skills, I wouldn't put much into the lap time comparisons.

By the way, the first time I ever drove a (09) Z06, was a student's car - at Monticello. I had taken him around in my '03 M3 while I learned the track that morning. He was an experienced student in high-HP Mustangs but also had not tracked the Z06 before or driven Monticello before. After a couple of instructing session (he was doing a good job), he said "Would you like to drive my car (Z06) at pace?" I was very impressed with the handling balance, braking and power, although with good throttle control. Six months later I sold my M3 and got my 09 Z06 - wonderful car

Those powerslides are simply for entertainment production value. That guy's a pretty good driver. Races enduros on the Nurburgring and was even invited by one of the major manufacturers to drive the 24 hour event.

The Z06 has reached 198 mph in magazine testing. The German mag Sport Auto confirmed 320 kph (198.8 mph) in its individual supertest. I've read that they use straight, flat portions of the autobahn for their top speed tests. They drove the Z06 to the same top speed in a comparison test at one of the giant ovals.

When Motor Trend tested the Enzo, Carrera GT, and Ford GT at this same venue in Arizona, all of the cars were 7-10 mph down on speeds they have reached elsewhere too, so I think there should be more in it for the GT500 too.

Seriously? "False Advertising"? This is all you (OP) have to cry about? The '13 GT500 is a great car, just like the 12, 11, 10, 09, 08 and 07 that preceeded it.

Was the 135 a typo on your or ford's part?

The 135 was what R&T reported Ford said on the GT500's 1/4 mile trap speed.

196.5 is within 2% of the claim on a track with 5000ft straights whereas the claim indicates it needs 17000 ft straights.

I would give them (the claimers) a break.
Then send the car back to the wind tunnel for a little tidy up work.

Well crap, that's means the drive to work would take 13.8 minutes instead of 13.5.

5000 feet with a very high entry speed, versus a standing start.

Ford does, since they're really bragging on this worthless number. All marketing to the gamer crowd since they're the only ones that have driven a mustang at 200 mph, even though it was just a video game.
