Looks like the vette might need to be put in the stable. cause i need a car that can commute longer distances more practically.
probably a sedan or small suv. maybe a truck.
want something somewhat high end (using for business).
Leaning toward either a Lexus IS or Lexus RX
any other good options for me?

CTS-V between $15-20K?
CTS-V commuting longer distances more "practically"?
I think your way off course.
Keep the Vette and get that luxury cruiser. The mpg on a CTS-V is far from practical. Unless of course, money (unpredictable gas prices) is of no concern.

by "practically" i mean comfortable and can haul passengers and stuff in trunk. mpgs arent really THAT important.

i had an 06 is 350. it was a tremendous car. the interior on that was, in my opinion, as good or better than most new 2012's. do your homework and you will find a perfect one like mine was.

If you are really thinking CTS-V, take a look at the G8 GT. V8, RWD, 6spd AT, good handling and lots of interior space. They were only avaliable in '08 and '09 and seem to be holding their value pretty well so they will be at the high end of your price range. I daily drive mine as I have kids to drive every day. A few bolt-ons and it has run a 12.5 at the drag strip and you can't tell it had mods for the daily drive.

You can buy a 2006--2008 Jeep GC (nicely-equipped) in your price range...just did the same.
Get one with a V-8 engine (4.7L, or 5.7L Hemi)...the difference in gas mileage from the 3.7L 6-cyl.
is not significant, and you get much better hp/tq... it's a moderately heavy vehicle.

Sadly, there is still a huge gap in long-term quality between Lexus and most American (and German) vehicles. Our RX400h is now 7 years old and the only issue its had is a CD player that produces an error message. It has been the most reliable vehicle we have ever owned. My Mazda is also very reliable but not quite in the same league as Lexus.

A coworker recently traded in his wife's Chrysler Pacifica for a Dodge Durango and was surprised at how much he received for the Pacifica as a trade-in. I asked him why he was surprised and he told me that the cruise, a window, and the stereo weren't working.
I then asked him why he would buy another Chrysler product after all the issues he had with the Pacifica. He told me that the newer Chryslers vehicles benefit from Daimler's German engineering and should therefor be more reliable. I then reminded him that Mercedes has been near the bottom of the heap when it comes to reliablity. Some people are gluttens for punishment, I guess.
