Why I own a Viper
After 19 years, it remains the most uncompromised production supercar ever built by a major manufacturer.
It’s ferocious where Ferraris are sophisticated. Raw in all the ways that Porsches are refined. And it’s as demanding as the Corvette is coddling.
This car is indifferent to its driver and his survival. You either take the Viper on its own terms or it will kill you. If you’re enough of a driver to drive it hard, it’s an exhilarating near-death experience.

While I agree ...the Viper can be ferocious, I think you are comparing apples to oranges. I am thankful for the Viper & believe it not only serves an important segment of the market, but also keeps the other Marques on their toes. That being said, I believe the Viper appeals to a whole different personality/style of driver. Maybe Vipers have changed some, the last one I rode in was a '99, but I doubt they have lost all of the more raw feel that makes them so desirable to their owners . However, to those who like traction-control and other refinements, that very rawness can have the opposite effect.
Neither style is better or worse as a stand alone, it is when you add the driver to the mix.... that the scales tip one direction or the other.
PS. congrats on the Viper,
sounds fun...elaborate, if you so wish.....

i'll pass
i'm not looking for a life vs death experience when i drive.
there was a reason they stopped making the original cobras/king cobras.
chrysler will either refine the viper and increase sales or just use the name on other models. in the end it may end up a kit car.

All the reasons I'll never own one. Not looking for a near death experience when I drive. That and I hate the look of them now... loved the old clown shoes though.

As a three time Viper owner I have to say that's a wee bit over the top.
A Viper is what you make of it. Drive it recklessly and it will bite you 'cause there are no nannies to help straighten you out. Pick your spots and drive it with an eye towards weather and road conditions and you can not only survive but enjoy being in complete control of the car without any computer assists. I've managed to go 6 years without incident and even drive in the wnter if it's dry and sand/salt free. I've even driven this is 30 degree weather and lived :

What the original poster posted is a very true statement. An awesome car that was most true to the original cobra. Car was unforgiving and weeded out a lot of low brain cell individuals who didn't know any better. To compare it to a vette is another story though, yes its in the same category but vette owners like creature comforts like a/c and windows, a top, and skin on the back of ankels on first year vipers...lol. In the end it was just a bad investment for dodge, hence the cancellation of the model. It did get more refined in the later years though, but still no available traction control/abs which many buyers want/need (not me however). It will come back in the future, bigger and badder but more like what the zr1 is now, all creature comforts to boot imo.

But only the 2008 and newer models with 600HP and love the ACR Viper, but I do think the wing is a bit over the top for a street driven car but would take one over any vette including a ZR1 any day of the week.
I LOVE my C6 Z, but the new Vipers just don't get any more bad azz when it comes to the looks (they are much MEANER looking than a vette); and the 600 n/a ponies and crazy torque of its massive engine is awesome!
Someday a 2008 or newer Viper will be in my garage, next to my 427 ci C6 Z, and my 1969 440 c.i., 500+HP Plymouth Road Runner!

I think the Viper has always succeeded at its goal of being a raw, over the top sports car experience. Somebody's gotta do it.
