It takes time to build pedigree in a car ! Most performance cars have done that through racing and created a boys club through history of winnings and team domination.
Ferrari don't need the fastest car out there nor do Porsche once you own one you feel like you are now part of that Historic club !
You can't get that in a hyundai or Nissan ! If you own a Nissan or Hyundai the only thing the company can do is be a better performer on the road. That's all they can give you !
When you pull up to a Gt3 in your Corvette you know there is something more special about the Porsche than just it's performance. It's owned by upper class people, successful people, people who are perceived to have made it in life.
Like I said it's part of the boys club weather you like it or not it drips in presence hence the price ! Weather you like it or not that's what your buying into.
Middle class people can say those pompous a-holes can have there Porsches I don't won't to look like a tosser ! The last thing an upper class person want's is to look like a middle class person so there is your customer base ! Stewy

Default Hi Dave _ my new favorite car!

This 2011 PanamerraTT is the bomb. It absolutely smokes the Z06 and is so quiet you can hear a pin drop. Yes - it is $$$ but you get what you pay for. It has everything you could want - QUALITY, luxury, top speed, quick, handling. Ah yes....and 7:56:00 at the ring.

I get my 911TT back today after another upgrade - Mustang Dyno puts it at 735AWHP & 708 FT#. The only thing I needed to do to protect the car was upgrade the tranny at $4K. I maybe breaking 0-100 in low 5 sec range. Also had a very substantial 200# shaved from the weight - removed back seats, added CF hood and rear deck. I am now at 4.55#/WHP.

UPDATE:
Detroit auto show: Porsche 918 RSR is AutoWeek's Best In Show winner

It has a 563hp traditional gasoline engine mounted amidships, with a pair of electric motors powering the front wheels that bring the total power up to a whopping 767....there is NO substitute.

My porsche dealer offers a loaner or the "taxi" service. I normally chose their taxi service, which means that the dealership person drives me to work and when the service is done he picks me up and drives to the dealer. All my appointments so far were for simple maintenance and dealership is close to my work, so it is no hassle at all.

The only chevy dealer that was someone competent in repairing corvettes did not offer loaners and their shuttle service was just way too busy. So everytime the car had to go there, I needed to arrange for my transport to/from the dealer. That was a bit of a hassle.

CP,

It is highly unlikely that this car would "smoke" the Z06 (with Z07 option package) at VIR or the "Ring", based upon the fact that the Z06 smoked the GT3 and Turbo at VIR

Try telling that to the Bugatti Supersprt crowd. That 1184+ HP IS a great substitute!

Ah, all the cars .00001% of us can afford.......

By the way, I think I'd prefer the twin-turbine Jag over the Porsche Panamera:

Those wheels, though are just too huge.

Come on "E" , Its the ultimate Pee. I am hearing more and more from my dealer like a Turbo only or NA only variant in the 650-700 hp range. Another Carrera GT if you will but mfg in low #'s for collectors. I am looking for the car to dump some $ into and this maybe it. I am also looking at an A1 C1-C2 for investment purposes for my kids to own when I pass.

Your statement that I have never owned a jag is like telling a Hyundai customer or a Mustang GT customer that he or she must never have owned a car from either manufacturer, just because they believe a new one represents quality/performance.

Old Jags were unreliable, but so were old Fords and old Hyundais. That was then, this is now!

Finally, he is realizing that there's always someone who will pay 10 times what a car is worth. The difficult part is not designing a super car with an unlimited budget and sell at an astronomical cost; rather, it is designing a supercar that a middle-class person can afford to buy. THAT is a challenge that Porsche will never conquer.

I'd buy a AMG 6.3 Benz 4 door over the new 4 door offerings from any of the other big euro car builders. 2 door different story ! Stewy

Unfortunately, of all the German car manufacturers, MB is at the very bottom when it comes to reliability.

I was thinking that as I wrote that ! Since they have been building their motors from South Africa they have become quirky ! I have had 5 major things wrong with my benz since new at 25k and it has been rather painful but I really like the car. It's a C200 kompressor 2006. I believe their a lot better now but will keep mine a bit longer to see. I don't want a broken AMG. My friend has a 500 komp AMG 2006 and he has no problem with his and it went to Calder raceway the first week he got it and ran 11.4 over 4 runs with each of us having a go. This car gets thrashed regular and nothing so far. But I have noticed bits of interior trim falling off. Stewy

Why don't YOU go out and do that, because most sane business people aren't really thinking along those lines. You'll have the market cornered!

No, I don't think the supercars are made for this purpose. Supercars and supermodels are for looking and being admired by bourgeoisie and being driven and bedded by the superrich.

I would say, the 918RSR, with a selling price of at LEAST 675K is hardly within the budget of a middle class person.

Take a look at a Panamera. I can assure you the fit, finish, and all around quality is far beyond your std MB meaning a c/e-class. Now an AMG is a different story I would hope. I would place the Panamera along/beyond the same quality as the very best euros sport sedans. All you have to do is drive one and it is VERY obvious.

You REALLY rely on magazines Dave. You read it, I drive them. Drive a MB AMG, Panamera, and a Jag - and then make a decision - you will take a guy making 40K per year whose job is to review cars he could never afford as gospel?

Fords was the best thing that happened to Jag. Now they are owned by Indians - they wouldnt use financial influence now would they - no 3rd world country would rely on payoffs or similar influence. Have you ever been to India or outside the US for that matter? It is w/o question the dirtiest country I have ever visited and their decisions, well, are classic 3rd world.

BTW: This is the latest results I could find on the Euro sedan fight via C&D dated Feb 2010- Wheres the Jag?

In This Story•Introduction•Third: 2009 Maserati Quattroporte GT S•Second: 2009 BMW 750i•First: 2010 Porsche Panamera S (Not even the Turbo)

As I have said before Dave - you are a HATER!
