I really thought I wanted one, too, especially when the true convertible arrived in 2003. I spent a few hours with one in varying degrees of street driving. I found it cramped with the top up and rear visibility was very poor. There was a lot of valve clatter coming through the firewall. The shifter was tall and had a long throw IMO.
For a weekend cruiser, maybe. To drive daily, never. They are a brute and you won't see yourself coming and going. I personally could not live with one for very long. Just my $.02 which may or may not be worth squat.

I was in this crossroad a month ago....
I hate the vipers because of small stuff like you have to put the key in then press "engine start" why even bother having that button? it only takes 1/4 a turn to turn it on. The doors dont open like the vette, pretty cool button.

A friend bought one but was temporarily without a garage, so stored it in my garage for a month with the keys. It is cramped and hard to live with. The exhaust note is strange and not that appealing. My car felt faster, but it did handle like a go kart.
Bottom line is I decided I would only have one if I was big into tracking it on a road coarse, and used it only for that.

You've already listed a lot of positives of the Corvette over the Viper. I think a lot has to do with how you'll actually use the car. IMO if its even somewhat of a daily driver I wouldn't consider switching...not for a 2003 Viper. If you track the car regularly the Viper might have more appeal but if you're like me you'll end up wanting to modify the Viper too. Bottom line...if you just want a Viper...buy it! Personally, I think if you make the right modifications to your C6 you won't even think about a Viper. Well...not much anyway.

Get the Viper. Why the hell not?
Drive it for two years (up to the itch), then trade it, mod it, or if the lottery comes a calling, keep it and buy a Heffner Gallardo.
Most of all, enjoy!!!
Peace out!

Buy the Viper, I am on the viper site daily and have been drooling over one for years.
I was pretty close to being able to afford one and made a good mistake and bought my 2007 vette. great daily driver but like you said, you see several of them every day. 1.5 million vettes versus around 2000 a year for the viper.
You can always get a vette again as a daily driver. I will keep my vette but my next car is a viper. I just bought my daughter her new car so no more set backs.

This is a great forum and much friendlier than Viper club or Viper alley. i'm afraid if I took the leap I'd regret it 6 months down the road when the novelty wears off. For instance, I don't think I would drive my Viper in the rain, which I have no problem doing in the Vette, and I live in Seattle, so that would be a problem 200 days a year.
I see 10 Vettes a day where I live, but only one Viper a week at most. I would definitley prefer the exclusivity and uniqueness. I wish I wasn't so conflicted

The Viper is a pure raw car...No nannies or other bs...
It isn't for everyone but it beats the vette in more than just being exclusive. Heck props to it for no compromises and sissy sticks..
The Viper is probably the single biggest reason our Vettes have improved as much as they have since the Viper came out.
here is hoping it's only gone a short while.
Go for it...it will always re-sell when you are ready for something else.

i looked at a new 08 last year, decided against it due to the cramped compartment. I'm 6-2, 220 and it was a tight fit for me. It was an incredibly beautiful car for sure. As someone else stated, i do not like the exhaust tone, just my personal preference. Since the car was most likely going to be discontinued i decided against it and bought the GT1 Z06 instead. Never looked back!

I had the exact same questions as you, and decided to take the plunge thinking that if I didn't like it I would just sell it down the road and pick up another Z06.
I absolutely LOVE my Viper. You can't really explain it, it's just a different experience. I love Vette's but I may not ever go back after buying my Gen III. Now I am just trying to get into a Gen IV ACR.
Go For It!
It's not like you can't mod them either. I have a new 08 hood, and Hennessey low rise spoiler going on along with the ACR paint scheme happening in a week.
The Viper forums are different but once you spend some time there they become just as entertaining as this one LOL.
