a new world record has been set for the standing mile. a Twin Turbo Ford GT went 253.XX mph today at the Top Gun Run in Florida
in addition to the sea level atmosphere i hear he was aided by his 1800 hp and a tailwind. apparently he used a parachute to get it stopped and next time he will go faster when he puts the smack to it......
ast Sunday at the "Top Gun Run" 1 mile event in Florida, a twin turbocharged Ford GT built by Performance Power Racing set an all-time world record for a street legal car in the standing mile. The record of 246 mph in the Mile from a standing start has been held for a couple years by a 1600 hp turbocharged Toyota Supra.
With a custom-built, straight cut gear, six speed transmission and putting 1750 hp to the rear wheels, it was a sight to see. Dig this! He blogs it a bit in first gear, spins the rear tires badly at the top of first, second, third, and fourth gears, goes a bit sideways in third gear, completely misses the second to third gear shift, and with all of those mistakes, blows through the traps at the 1 mile mark at 253 mph!!!
A clean run would've easily put him into the 260s. Not only is it an amazing engineering accomplishment, it took some serious huevos to keep the hammer down all the way through 250. Congratulations and well done.
Wow! And Top Gear was happy with a ZR-1 Corvette hitting 177 in a standing start mile at the Bonneville Salt Flats.
Totally different race on salt. I wonder what the top speed is on that Ford GT. That thing seemed like it would never stop accelerating. Crazy smooth too at those speeds.
^300?? looks possible with a different gear. Seems he hit the limiter in 6th. Is there no other gear???. Pulled from 150-200 like nothing. 200-250 was a breeze too. Just otherworldly.
pretty sweet run, guess SW has his work cut out for him this year. wonder if the supra will come back out or if they will wick up the underground gallardo.
