Default You traded your Viper for WHAT??!!

That's what I hear so far from whomever I've told since last night when I picked up my new-to-me '07 GT500 with 1500 miles, red with silver stripes. It didn't even get sold originally until about 6 months ago, which was weird. The only mod is the FRPP Power Pack (or whatever they are calling the CAI/mufflers/tune pkg) which happened to be installed by the dealer. The only seat time I have in it is the 2hr ride home from the dealer, but I have to say it is nice to drive a real car again. The navigation system and accompanying stereo touch-screen set up is very cool! It also came with the car cover and premium interior. Yes, I know these cars are heavy, but what other car can you add over 100rwhp to for $1500?? Plus, it's not like I'm autocrossing it or anything. If I was concerned with weight, I wouldn't be over 260lbs!

I traded in my 12k mile '98 Viper because I was so tired of trying to sell it and dealing with jerkoff's who couldn't follow through. Loved the looks of the car, but hated driving it - claustrophobic interior, very tight fit for me, too loud to carry on a conversation, ****ty stereo, hard to get in and out of (I know, I must be getting old), horrible ride, felt like I was driving a kit car, and a zillion gawkers. Other than that, it was an awesome car!

I traded in this (minus the $$ rims):

For this (yes, it WILL be lowered):

I think the new ride is awesome - you owned a Viper, got a good sense of the experience, and felt like moving on to something different. I don't blame you and in fact just did something along the same lines myself.

Personally, I'd much rather have the new Mustang over an 11 year old Viper. Just IMO.
Plus, I love the look of the new GT500's.

I did something similar when I sold my 68 to buy my 01. The Viper is similar to my 68 - crude, fast, and got lots of attention. Vipers may punish other cars, but they punish the driver even more! No thanks....

Thanks for the positive feedback.

I've never owned a Ford product before, but the brand of car never mattered much to me, and I've always had domestics (except for a mistake with an XJ-S).

Like Corvettes, the aftermarket for Mustangs is ridiculously HUGE, which I really like. I don't need a back seat, but it's nice to be able to throw something back there, if needed. My Viper didn't even have a glovebox, and the trunk wouldn't even hold a carry-on bag.

I have to say I never really got into the Viper and I'm not gonna miss it for a second. I had to try it, though. Boy, that was an expensive experiment!

Default You confirmed

You confirmed everything I've heard about vipers.
Never been in one and don't plan on it either.

Nice Stang! You have to go with your heart and if you are happy with the GT500 and will enjoy it more than that was the right decision. I would have probably done the same thing in your boat. They say everyone should own a convertible once in their life...I have now and I've decided I'm just not a convertible person. I love my Corvette convertible, I ordered it with the options, tranny and colors i wanted and have fixed the horrid stereo and some other small issues with it, it is just how it should be BUT I really really like the new CTS-V.

I had a 2000 Viper a few years back, most uncomfortable car I ever had,but it sure was a blast to drive......

Fast forward to one year ago, I bought a leftover brand new Viper Coupe off the showroom floor without ever sitting in the car...had it deliverd and it was much better than the 00 Viper I had.

I had the guy that wrenches on my car tell me one day when I was complaining about the lack of amenities on the Viper..."The Viper was not built for your comfort, but the discomfort of other performance cars"

Seems like you got yourself a bargain on the trade-in..

Curious if you don't mind elaborateing on the "expensive experiment" quote you mentioned above......

Can you say STFU, Jonny-boy?

I was a VCA member because on that site, if you don't pay for a membership and get listed as a club member, you're treated like a second-class citizen, and can't even VIEW specific parts of the site, UNLIKE EVERY OTHER FORUM.

Show me where I said I "loved the car." People on this forum who know me KNOW that I was never one of the Viper's fan-boys, like yourself. Never said it was a POS, either - I think you're a little too defensive about a silly CAR and your fragile ego is a little too tied up in it.

Who's the tool who gets upset about someone's opinion of a car?

By "expensive experiment," I meant that I took an $8k hit to drive the car maybe 1100 miles over the course of 14 months. Oh well, live and learn.
