Ok guys here's the scenario. I live in Canada therefore my Z is an 8-months-a-year kind of car. It is currently my only car. Bought a new house a little outside the city and I need a 4 season car that's more practical (My GFs car is an SLK280.. we need something with more than 2 seats.. lol). So, I am selling the Z (it a MY 02).
For those of you who have second cars or who came over from another car - what can you suggest I buy? Here are my thoughts:
a) B6 ('04 / '05) Audi S4
b) E46 M3
By selling the Z I feel like im losing part of my soul I need a car that will inspire me a little bit, even though I know it will be nothing compared to the Z06.
Maybe you should post your question in the "Other cars" forum?
Ya, I was thinking of posting it not in here - but, as a current C5 Z06 owner.. I really thought it was a relevant question to pose to other C5 Z06 owners. And really.. who reads the "other cars" section :P
If you need an all-weather sporty car you can't beat a quattro Audi. I sell Audis, Porsches, and Jaguars and have driven them all. The S4 is a very fun car to drive, the RS4 is truly awesome. Good luck selling your car right now... it's a tough market right now.
Your best bet would be to keep the Z06 for fun times and get a beater truck or suv.
I just did a quick search on Craigslist for E55's in my area...http://sfbay.craigslist.org/search/s...k=max&hasPic=1
There are some smoking deals right now...I have kid on the way and might need a car with a backseat.

I agree with the STI if that is even an option for you. They are awsome in the snow and can be pretty fast. It will also leave you some money for your kids college fund. S4 would be sweet too.

tell me about it. My neighbour runs a car financing company, imports cars from US to Canada on the cheap. As a last resort he'll give me a trade on the vette.. but I'd have to eat some hefty losses
I don't understand your reasoning. You want to sell a RWD car, because it doesn't work well in the Canadian weather, for another RWD car?
Re: STi/Evo
I don't know what the insurance rates are like in Canada, but the STi and Evo are more expensive to insure than a C5 Z06. I only had liability on my 05 STi. I put full coverage on the 04 Z and my rates went up a little less than 250/yr. When I was getting quotes for full coverage of the STi vs. Z06, the rates showed that the Z was about 500USD/yr less to insure. The Evo is THE most expensive car to insure in the United States, and the Subaru is in the top 5.
I don't know what your emission standards are in Canada, but, in California, 99% of all engine-mods for the STi/Evo are illegal. Also, the STi gets 18/24 city/highway.
I would consider a Subaru Legacy with a 2.5GT engine. That, or a 98-01 Subaru 2.5RS with an STi motor + transmission swap. Maybe wait for a BMW 3 series twin-turbo with AWD?

Well the S4 is AWD obviously. I only put the M3 on the list because you can put winter tires on it. The winter in Toronto is not that bad, but the vette is COMPLETELY undriveable in the winter as in not possible at all. The M3 is driveable in the winter (but clearly no up steep hills during an ice storm... but that goes for most cars).
If I wanted a vehicle solely for a harsh winter with snow, I would buy a truck. The question is - what car can I purchase that will still give me some driving satisfaction and that I can put winter tires on.
STi / Evo isn't really my style (it's a kids car..) the Legacy would be a possibility but it's waaaaay too boring. And wrt to insurance.. the insurance on my car is cheaper than on my brother's 2006 Chevy optra - Go figure.. lol (he has a clean driving record as well).
The S4 without a doubt is the way to go, fun tossable car with good acceleration, AWD and its very classy inside and out. You may also want to look at picking up a 335IX bimmer as well...... I have driven both and the bimmer is definately quicker but overall I like the Audi better.

Thoughts? Suggestions?
From the looks of what you are looking to buy, you are not selling because of financial issues, so my advise?, Keep the Z(you will miss your vette), add another car , something cheap, safe and reliable. Or better yet make your GF get rid of her car, why does she get to keep her sporty little car? If you are not married and don't have any children, no way in hell sell your car because of a GF. I had a serious GF a few years ago, tried to get me to do the same thing, she pulled the , what if we want kids, bla bla... I told her if we ever got married and had kids, I would buy an additional car , but would not get rid of my toy, we ended up arguing, to the point, I told her that the Vette would be around after she was long gone, guess what?, I was right. I know what I'm writing sounds cold, but trust me, right when you said GF, that light went off into my head, never trust anything that can bleed for 7 days and not die, and never sell your car because of a GF!!!! Keep a mental note of what I just said, someday , you just might thank me.
