I've never been into Mustangs...they're OK they just don't do anything for me. I have owned 3 different BMW's. I don't think the BMW is the wonder car some people make them out to be but I enjoyed the one's I owned. I'd go with an M5 before the 3 series.

I've owned 2 BMW's (E90 330i and E46 M3) and you're right, they are good cars and drive every well but they aren't the "be all, end all" of cars as most BMW fanbois would have you believe. The E46 M3 is widely regarded one of the best overall sport coupes ever built and an edgy, very good car to drive hard but in all honesty, I can do things with my C6 that would have had the M3 in a ditch.
For my money, the M-cars are more legend then fact when it comes to how good they truly are. Where they once more fact then legend, yes but that period is long gone and as been replaced by the M-team building the car to please the largest group possible in the name of sales instead of staying true to what made the car great. The M3 is the only one that's very good at the track, the M5 and M6 are both done in by their excessive weight and despite all of that "superior German engineering" all the M-cars get terrible gas mileage and are very expensive to fix and maintain once it's on your dime.
Personally, I wouldn't own a new M3 sedan or coupe. To keep either version under 60K you are basically driving a car with little to no options and fully loaded you are hitting up against the high 60's-70K mark and that's before you spend any money on mods (you think the Corvette tax is bad try the BMW tax once or twice, it makes the Corvette tax seem like a trip to Dollar General). Now, if you are that loaded with cash and only intend to drive it at the track, no problem. But you wanted to drive it as DD, it would suck. I don't think the new M3 or M5 are that good looking either. I'd take an E39 M5 or the E46 M3 over the new ones anyday. I liked my E46 M3 alot and would love to own another one some day because it's the best looking BMW ever built IMO and a really fun car to drive, but I don't regret trading it in for my C6 for one second.

M3 by a landslide. I wouldnt even think twice. I have had several mustangs and Bimmers and there is no comparision in the quality of those two cars and I can only imagine the resale is much better with the BMW.

The current crop of BMW M cars are a mockery of the original E30 which was built only for homologation purposes.
I say get the M3, namely to experience the high revving engine [different from most V8's].

Shelby GT500? I love my corvette but I'd like to get something with 4 seats. I'm asking here because it's going to be less biased than these cars' specific forums and you guys are car guys so you'll have opinions. Both would be 2008 models. Money is not really an issue.
Thanks for your advice?

EXL sedan and keep your Corvette. I get the best of 40 MPG Hwy from the Honda. This choice could prevent money from becoming an issue in the future.

The car has great handling tons of room, plus a fit and finish second to none. For 20 g's can't touch it!
I would with go the new series 1 in a BMW
