Tire repair: How close to sidewall?
Tire with 4500 miles from my 06 Silverado has a nail. Nail is in the
tread 1/2" from the side wall. Went to a tire store and they said
they cannot patch it as it is too close to the sidewall and the
tire will flex loosening the patch.
Is this true or should I try another store? Would you use a plug?

If the nail is too close than it weakens the tread wall as it is normally super stiff. You can plug or patch. If it is close than just take the loss and get a new tire. wouldnt want to take the chance and have a tire blow. However you wont loose anything by goin to another tire shop and seeing if they would fix it.

Sounds too close. Usually needs to be an inch or some even say more, has to be well into the tread.
Patch it and make it the spare.
