Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde - garage partners
Hey guys,
Well the Z has a new garage mate:
A 2009 Toyota Camry Hybrid.
(Changed pic and added the car name above - please let me know if you can see this pic)
I know some of you guys are OR OR OR
Well I bought it because this will be my DD/commuter car for this year. I will be driving ~3k miles a month and needed something quiet, safe, reliable, and efficient.
I didnt want to give up power for efficiency, so I took a hit in the image department
The RED wasnt my idea - just what they had available. These cars are freakin hard to find! I had to do quite some work to get it at 1k below MSRP.
So I'm looking forward to 40mpg on the weekdays and 14 in the weekends

I purchased the matter/antimatter drive with dylithium crystals that have a long shelf life. I never need to fuel

The Camry hybrid averages 36-37 MPG and it is unlikely that any other car this quiet/luxurious can even come close to that. With almost 200HP and 0-60 at about 7.5 seconds, this car represents an excellent compromise between economy and speed.
The Malibu Hybrid is a great car as well, but its mileage is not quite up there with the Camry's.

I just picked up an 06 Civic EX, for the same reasons as you. I drive 600miles a week to work, its not as luxurious as the Camry but im averaging 37mpg and its not even a hybrid.

My friends own one and it gets about 35 mpg, while my 4-cyl camry gets about 10 mpg less in very similar commute. With gas at $4/gal you can prolly pay off the difference really quick

This is probably for mostly highway miles as most owners of a manual-tranny 06 Civic average less than 33 MPG.
see: http://www.fueleconomy.gov/mpg/MPG.d...da&model=Civic
Also, remember that the Civic is lighter, noisier, and slower than the 200 HP Camry, yet the Camry gets better overall gas mileage. THAT'S saying alot for hybrid technology!

The camry hybred is 8.6 to 60 and 147 hp (40 extra for the electric motor) and 34 hwy.
The Malibu hybrid gets 32 hwy but is about way cheeper on the price tag.

On top of that, I dont know if I trust GM enough.
It took a leap of faith to buy the Z. I have been let down more than once by all the American car companies.
I just drove to jacksonville from home today - a 370 mile commute.
For the first 100 miles I tried to baby the throttle - got an astounding 41mpg (and rising).
The speed limit went up to 70 and driving 60/65 was no longer safe. I just drove it like normal for the rest of the trip and my total trip average was 70.1mph.
My trip total MPG was 38.4MPG! Impressive!
