Default Which Car Would You Choose Over Your C6?

I'm considering upgrading to a more expensive sports convertible but can't seem to find one worth the money. The Corvette offers so much value for the money that it's hard to justify spending more. The only thing missing in the Vette is the exclusivity one gets by paying more for an exotic or near-exotic.

I'd be willing to spend up to $150K for the right new car but have yet to find it. I want a vert so that rules out the Maserati Granturismo and 911 Turbo Coupe. The 911 Turbo Cabriolet is just not very good-looking, I don't think, though meets all my other criteria in terms of performance, interior finish and quality. However, 911 Carreras are about as common as Vettes so the 911 Turbo's exclusivity score is reduced considerably. I've always respected Porsches but just don't lust after them.

The M-B SL63 AMG is good-looking and potent but is it a true sports car? It simply does not live up to its "Super Light" (SL) name and tips the scales above 4100 lbs.

The Jag XKR is good-looking but is also no lightweight and isn't cutting-edge, technologically. Plus, its exclusivity rating isn't much better than the Vette's.

The Aston Martin V8 is gorgeous but underpowered and also not cutting-edge, technologically, though certainly high on the exclusivity scale.

The Viper is crude and too show-off for my tastes.

Any suggestions?

I see you want a vert so get the C6 then do a widebody conversion then put a TT in it or get the Z06 and do a convertible conversion then TT that.

Or supercharge, whatever you want

Drove my friend's M6 vert the other day and was very impressed. Does not drive like it weighs as much as it does. Very nice car and the paddles work very well.

Well,

If I was going to spend that much I would go for a Ford GT as my first choice...

Then a ZR1 Corvette if you could get one for that price...( I doubt it )

Then I would try for a Porsche GT2...

For me, the Aston Martin wins hands down. Hey, it's gorgeous...

However, have you considered a Callaway C16? Exclusive, powerful, and it's got the heart of a 'Vette...

Ah, but none are convertibles.

Best bet might be to buy something used. There's a lot of exotics (if that's what you must have) that can be had in your price range. None that I would want, personally. My second choice besides the C6 is a Porsche Cayman S.

Convertibles are for posing. Coupes are for driving.

Think laterally - don't change your car, move to a different country!

If you move to England you'll find that a C6 is far rarer than a 911 or a Ferrari...

Obvisously you never have been on a trip with a Vert....Having owned BOTH there is no doubt in my mind which one is for driving.... You probably don't remember the TV show Rt 66.....The car was a VERT!!!

The General was not stupid when they designed the vette. It can be a boulevard cruiser, raced on the track, an eye stopper, a jack-of all-trades and affordable to maintain and drive, even every day. Maybe Porsche comes close in some of these areas, esp. as a DD, but I like the torque band of the pushrod V-8. Granted the interior could be better etc, but for my tastes, and reqirements, the Vette is perfect for me. Make a list. Is it style, bang for the buck, useable as a DD, upkeep etc? That is why there are so many types of cars out there. Do it logically, one will resonate with YOUR individual needs! Have fun!

I know you said new car, but how about a used Gallardo? Most of them hardly have any miles, so they are almost new.

If you've got to have the performance and technology, then the Vette is the winner. So the suggestion of a C-16 is a great one.

Or if you really want to be different and fast, get a ZR-1 and send it to Caravaggio for a convertible conversion.

M6 would be on my short list. Maybe a used Ferrari 360. F430 would be nice but probably not near $150k. Lotus isn't real expensive; don't see many of them in DFW. Good luck.

for 150K or less, ZR1. Anything else, you're just settling for something less fun. M6 isn't a bad choice either, but the ZR1 is going to wax the floor with it.

Put a twin turbo on your Vette with some aftermarket body panels and invest the rest.

If you are satisfied with your Vette why do you want to spend money on something that you already have? I would keep that wad in my pocket instead of someone elses.
