The Sexy Body Lines, Big Hump Over Fenders, Big Rear spoiler-1974 & Race Track Worthy
Cowl induction hood, wrap around dash.
Dog-leg heads, nice cam, headers, 4bbl...ice cold A/C (had setting "Desert Only").
High 13's in the 1/4 mile with stock tires and rims....60 series rear, 75 series front
After market rims 50 series rear, 60 series front, 14.5 with these heavy tires.
152mph top speed and squatted on the highway.
Tannies; SST = Ford FMX ---AMX = Chrysler 727
GM ignition components, but dist was in front of engine.
Carb was a holley like what came on Fords.
Valve covers looked Mopar.
Front suspension was like a Rustang
Rear diff was like a GM
Always mistaken for a Rustang or Cuda
Parts car---1971 Javeline SST 360 ci. 4bbl
The car?........1974 AMX...last year of full size AMX's
I threw these Polaroids together real quick...one day I'll do it right and show complete story. I quartered the roof, put the SST roof on, used a 74 Nova windshield, and used the SST grill....made a real dependable car.
These pics are from 1981 when I first got married.
BTW--that was my first Ford (the 62 Tbird)...hydraulic roof....weighed a TON or 12, but had 300hp...that car is probably worth a mint now...I got it from my grandfather at 18 when he passed away because he knew I was a car guy.
I traded it with my uncle when I got married for a small house....he was so jealous his dad gave it to me instead of him.
Thought ya'll might enjoy a blast from the past.

I knew there had to be more of these sleepers out there.
Funny; they had the humps and lines like the Vettes, were cheaper than the
Chevelles, mustangs, Camaros, ect....faster....ut not as popular and considered ugly.
Matadors were fast and ugly...passed everything but a fuel station.
Marlins looked like early chargers
Pacers...ruined AMC....lol

A friend of mine had an AMX, i don't remember the year but it had a 396 with 2x4's through the hood. With the hight of the tunnel ram and the velocity stacks you could see them from the rear of the car. That was one sweet ride.
