Looks pretty cool and should be pretty fast...BUT 40K for a dodge! Hell no. I think the vipers are cool, fast cars, but like I said... It's a dodge. Now old Mopar's, late 60's and early 70's were cars that were great. But any dodge made after 1973, is just a bucket of bolts!!!!!!
Putting aside 1st yr. production issues, dealer premium/gouge.....would any of you on fence about buying a base Vette consider this?
Looks a little off from concept; overhangs, rake, pillar, height, etc....
If I had not already bought a vette....sure, I'd consider it. Its an extremely nice looking car, an SRT version AND its got the 6.1L hemi. Whats not to like about it. However, I'd sure as hell not buy the first year model, and by 2009 I'd have to throw the camaro into the buying decision equation. But, I've got my 2006 C6....so I'm happy
I had an 06 Daytona Charger for a while. It wasn't an SRT8 but it was still a great car. Kind of wish I still had it. The Challenger is not a Vette competitor, but I think it too, will be a great car. I plan to own one after the craziness calms down. Probably my next "family" car in a year or two.

I've got a '99 Durango that I bought new, 65k on it now. It's been a GREAT rig - no problems whatsoever! Only gas, oil, tune and recommended service along with one set of tires at 55k! Even has the original brakes with +/- 50% left on the lining and pads! Looks like it's good to at least 100K! That's not "a bucket of bolts"!
Like the old cliche says - all generalizations are false.............

You've got to compare the quality of the interiors as well. Now that the Corvette's interior has taken a step up in appearance, to me the only choice would be the C6. If this thing weighs over 2 tons, and with the weight bias likely being 60/40 or worse, I'll bet handling is going to suffer.
I'll bet the dealers are going to be asking the same type of pricing initially that Ford is still doing for the limited editions (10K to 20K over) and that should make anyone consider a Vette long before the Challenger.

Oh I am sure there will be hugh "Fair Market" markup's-heck, around here dealers still have markup's on the Z06's. And why shouldn't they, if the market can handle it why not? It's not like its profiteering after a disaster.
That commercial will probably be banned just like they pulled the "A boys dream" commercial for the C6 when it first came out.
Rumor actually has it that this car for the first 6 months will ONLY be available in the SRT8 format and then starting with the regular model year changeout will have the regular V8's and the 6-bangers available for the 09 model year.
It's a great time for the Mopar crowd for sure. And here we sit STILL waiting on GM to get the Camaro out. Good thing I have a Vette and it is awesome.
The "new" Challenger is a line for line repro of the '71 model. It looked good in '71, but I would have hoped for a bit more imagination from the Mopar designers.
