Default 2005 M-B C55 or Caddy CTS-V

Looking to switch to a 4-door automatic (D.C. sucks for manuals), but want to keep as much performance as possible. I personally don't like BMW's, awesome cars, they just don't fit me well. Probably leaning towards the Mercedes, but would like other suggestion. Looking at 2005s. Any suggestions, reviews of C55 or CTS-V?

Well, if you want automatic, the C55 is your only choice. The CTS-V doesn't come with an automatic transmission.

Dang, the CTS-V was a very close second. Thanks for the helpful info.

How about an STS-V?

469 hp and an auto.

I personally don't like the C class. Everyone owns one!

The C class is too much of Tenny Bopper(did I spell that right?) car....check out a 03-04 E55, but make sure you get the warranty b/c as w/most mercedes, they will be seeing a lot of shop time.

E-55 just rips as far as performance goes..... but its pricey and with a benz (or any other newer car for that fact) you definately want some warranty coverage.

You may also want to look at a certified used Jaguar S-Type R model, supercharged 400 HP, 05's can be had in the $35K range.....they come with 100K mile warranty and great finance rates, its a beautiful looking car. I almost pulled the trigger on one of these but with having to drive through midwest snow I decided to go with another TL since I already had winter tires for it and I know the manager at the dealer so I got a killer deal I couldnt refuse both on my trade and the new car.

Another car to look at might be the Audi S4, its AWD and has 340hp.

Wow, I didn't know about the Jag. That may be an option. The E55 is a sweet ride too but I think a little bigger than I am looking for. I live in a townhouse and part of the reason I am considering trading in the vette is the long doors make it hard to get into and out with another car parked close (which my jerk off neighbor on the drivers side tends to do)

I was hoping that the AMG's didn't suffer shop time woes. I think I read that the engines were hand assembled by "master German engine builders", although I thought they also signed the engines (which I didn't see a signature on the C55 engine). Anyone had experience or knowledge of AMG reliability?

I own an E55 and have been on MBworld for about three years. These cars are by and large very reliable. The problem is that if anything breaks out of warranty, the repair is costly. Knock on wood, I have had no mechanical issues in 3 years. My COMAND blew out (that's the radio/navigation controller) but it was replaced under warranty. Had I had to pay for it myself, it would have been $2g's.

My suggestion is to find an 04 or 05 with a CPO warranty or a good aftermarket warranty (AAA) and enjoy the car.

Well, I pulled the trigger this past Saturday and traded my 2000 dark blue metallic coupe with 60k for a 2005, brilliant silver, 362bhp, Mercedes Benz C55 with 40k (Corvette plus $14,000). All I can say is the C55 is impressive; price, performance, style, fit, finish, accessories.
