Default Looks like the porty GT-R did turn out to be all that on a track..7:50 in wet by SA

When the time of 7:38 was released I didnt really buy it but knew something close to it was possible, after reviewing the video, ppl said it was an incomplete track which meant that the car could do with in 5-6 secs off of that, which would have put it just within Z06's time, now a production ready version of the GTR has been tested by sports Auto putting it with in 7:50 on a wet track, lets say 7:49, which btw is within 2-3 secs off of Z06 time after being down 32 SAE HP and some 700 lbs, not bad at all, atleast now some ppl ought to give respect here...

Although They also did claim that anything under 7:40 was optimistic, but IMHO a factory driver who has been driving on that track for months, probably even years fine tuning the car can dip times below optimistic levels as did the nissan test driver

If you can still find something wrong with it then what can i say besides

I love my vette but this deal seems soo much better after considering I am going to be having a kid and need the extra space + comfort of AWD for all year round fun in chicago, just will have to tough out the dealer markups now..

Sounds pretty good. Just as an aside, I have a very close friend of mine who works in sales for a large dealership in Sarasota. He indicated they are slotted to receive several GT-R's...didn't ask him if they have pre-orders...but if you are not opposed to shopping out of state, send me a pm and I'll give you his contact info...never hurts to talk.

That no doubt it funny, I wouldnt disagree about your comparison of vette to that lovely lady, but there is no way a GTR can be compared to anything like China.. I havent come up with a comparison when i do, i will surely post here, but it was funny none the less..

That article also says it does 0-60 in 4.8 secs, a sec slower than a C6 Z06, so don't think you're going to feel anywhere near the same "zip and rip" available in a Z. Saw it at the LA Auto Show, reminded me of a chest freezer on wheels, very bulky/boxy shape, but that's a matter of personal opinion. Oh, and it's a sport coupe, not a sports car. Hope it turns out to be what you're looking for.

So how many seconds (ballpark) should you take off for a few wet portions of track vs. dry? Maybe 3 ticks? I would think on a entire dry track the GT-R would have exceeded the Z06 time of 7:49, making the 7:38 time believable with a driver extremely familar with car + tons of laps. Just like the Z06 was 7 seconds faster with GM's best. Time will tell....

Makes one wonder what Ring time Nissan could get ... if they had several years to add AWD and refine the Chevy Z's platform.

I just watched "956 In Car" where Derek Bell drove a 956 on the 'ring in 6:41 with a camera in the car. Average speed? A little better than 120mph. That's fast in my book.

Gee there's a big suprise. Anyone who knows anything about cars knew that those numbers were wrong. Nissan just did a good bit of marketing. They shot their reputation in the process though.

We all knew the track was at least 5-6 sec shorter then most other cars runs. So 7:38 PLUS 5-6 secs is 7:43-7:44 so 7:50 is about right

Does this finally prove that it is not just horsepower and weight that matters?

GTR 480hp ~3800lbs: 7:50 (slightly wet?)
Z06: 500hp ~3150lbs: 7:49 (slightly wet?) *edited

I was trying to explain this in the other thread, but some of you weren't having it. What now?

and the tires were?

Can't wait to see one at the track and I'll have money to back it up if anyone gets one to play with my Chevy.

I agree, but I bet this car is all mouth and no back up, I'd put money on that.

He knows that, yet he picks here to post all the GT-R info he can, it's aggravating to me, and I dont own a Z06. Just being a PIB if you ask me. I vote for move or lock, there have been enough threads on the GT-R posted here already.

And please watch the Youtube video of the Z06's lap time, it seems they had tires even worse than the eagle's on there, the car was literally crippled. The only reason the GT-R is even in the same ballpark is stickier tires, but sadly, that goes for many cars.
