Default Kudos to GM - Chevy Volt

For the Non-DD C6 owner, will you consider a Chevy Volt as you DD car?

http://www.chevrolet.com/electriccar/

If this goes to fruition it is actually a darn good idea. It claims that it will never use a drop of gas if driven 40 miles or less. I drive less than 40 miles to work everyday, if the claims are true I will never gas up. This is one way to stick it to Chavez and cronies.

With the oil barrel future prices going record highs and almost breaking $90 this week, I see our gas prices on the holidays hitting around $5 a gallon

The Volt concept car actually looks pretty good; I will definitely consider buying this car.

I hope the thread NAZIs won't flame me for this post!

It would make a great local DD for me also and I would give it a chance and stay loyal to my C6 by having it's little sister to share the garage with her.

I only drive 2 miles to work. I would jump at this car if the price wasn't too high. The only other concern is the cost of a battery replacement.

Build it General, and we will come...

It would accomplish two strokes at once...It would put Asian car makers back on their heels until they could adjust, keeping more USA dollars at home in American companies and American jobs.

And, once enough of those cars are operating, it will make the "War on Terrorism" a non-issue. Let them keep their oil and their religion. Just don't let any of the bastidges emigrate here to seek the good life; make them stay over there in the sun and sand...sell them food and desalination equipment with appropriate "market adjustments."

Lets put it this way, My 2008 C6s Targa top started popping and creaking this week. This is the 4th model year for the C6 and they have had trouble with the tops from day one and they still are not right. I would NEVER consider buying an all new type of car from GM ever again. They have great ideas and concepts but they can never seem to execute anything properly.

Well, I say let GM start it and let other car makers including the Japanese perfect it. If 10% of these cars will replace the regular cars; just imagine from filling up gas twice a month to twice a year.

Your gas may go down, but your electric bill will go up. I don't suspect we will ever get rid of gasoline in my lifetime.

My 99 and my 01 Camaro's never had any problem with the t-tops or anything squeeking. My 05 Z51 hasn't had any problems with popping or creaking either. No matter what manufacturer you buy from, not every car is perfect - whether it's Porsche, Lexus the ever popular $2k per tune up Ferrari.
As mentioned before - there is only about 2-5% of corvette owners on this forum and you bet your a$$ when something goes wrong we post about it. Your creaking top is in the 2% of owners that have that "problem".
Don't get discouraged on the product line becuase of a creaking top - be more worried if you had to keep going in for oil leaks.

They say your electric bill should not go up for more than $10 a month for extreme usuage. Forgot where I read that, someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

Cool $10 a month, even it's a little more I'm good with that.

It's better to fork your money to the american electric companies and not the foriegn oil rich countries.

On my camry I gas up twice a week and pay an average of $40 a visit. In a year that is roughly about $1,000. If you have a GM Volt, you might spend $100 a year. I am comparing it with my camry that gets 30 miles to a gallon.

GM had an all electric car with a decent range over a decade ago, the EV1. This is not anything "new" I have a 14 mile one way commute - I would love one.

I'd buy it...or better yet, just take the rail they are putting in here. It will be free for us City employeed folks

The Generals first electic car got bought back (with out choice) and parked. They would have to really unsrew the first pooch to pull this off. Still a fantastic idea for those of us who drive every day.

Not knocking the idea but in 10-15 years when all of these Hybrid cars need new batteries...... where are they gonna dump the old ones??? Even to recycle is very costly and the when you factor in the machinery and transportation equipment that has to be run/used it ends up creating nearly just as much pollution. From an environment standpoint the Prius is more polluting than the H2 Hummer when you consider the big picture when it comes time for disposal. Great idea but then again so is/was the gas combustion engine.
