It looks like the Vette has a new enemy. I don't want to give up my Corvette but the Nissan GTR is bad ass. I may need to test drive one when they get here.

I've owned many Nissan products, and my current daily driver is an Infiniti M45. But I really don't see anything about the GTR that makes my heart go pitter-patter. I think it will be considered more of a competitor to the M3 and Audi S4. Or maybe WRX or EVO owners who hit the lottery.
Oh, and I could care less how fast it goes around the ring. I don't race my car, I drive it on the street. I like a car with great handling, but I also understand that cars that are built specifically to turn fast laps may not be a good compromise for street driving.
I'm glad they make it, and I still respect it. I just don't want one.

It's interesting IMO and that's about it. It will always be a force fed V6. It won't ever sound or look like a vette. It won't ever have the bottom end torque.
Mostly, I think the GTR is going to hit the market way way above the price range that those who want it can afford. Talk about teenagers who want new vettes......man oh man, ten million punks of all ages are going to want this so they too can drive just like in the comedy movie, The Fast and The Furious.
Most won't be able to afford it. When you could have a vette for the same $ or less you gotta be young and in love with the style to want it instead. IMO
So what if it's faster. I don't race on the street. Put the GTR and C6 side by side and see which car turns the most heads.
Now, if they had put a V8 in it.....different story entirely.
ps. wow. just read the articles. wow again. low $70 thou range eh? For a Nissan? Well, what I said above sounds even more accurate. Most who want it won't be able to afford it. I doubt seriously that it will capture many Z06 sales. I mean, look at it. And it gets all that power from a flogged V6 remember. I wouldn't be surprised if it sounded more like a motorcycle than a car.
low 70s....that's just incomprehensible, there are going to be so many sad eyed 17years olds out there who have "waited their entire lives" for a car just like the GTR. So sad that so few of them will be able to afford it.

Reason: ps
For those who like lotsa plumbing under the hood, it's got it. For those who like the front and rear end styling, it's got it. And for those who like the cost, that's fine with me.
I, too, have owned a lotta Nissan and Datsun products, all good or passable. This isn't one I want.

Not sure what you mean by it won't have the bottom end tq of a vette. It will feel every bit faster then an LS3 down low. A TT V6 produces gobs of tq, you must be thinking of a 4 cyl single turbo like the EVO.
Believe me, I came from owning a 3000GT VR-4 (made 374awhp, 370awtq). It was also a V6 and it flew and responded very well down low thanks to quick spool and broad tq range.
I guess your post illustrates to me the difference between performance car lovers vs. Corvette lovers. I am the latter. I am not one who chases the latest and greatest that XXX brand offers. I drive the Corvette because I love Corvettes. Funny thing is when the GTR or XYZ comes out, I'll still love Corvettes. I don't care if this is faster as I won't be racing one. I certainly don't think it offers anything in the looks department, at least not for my taste.

That's pretty much what I said in the last GTR thread before it got moved to off topic by the mods. Even if I wanted to race a Vette, I would take a modified LS2, LS3 or LS7 over a tweaked twin turbo GTR. I love the look, feel and amenities of a Corvette, period.

I made my excursion to the Nissan TT world in 1990 with the 300ZXTT. That puppy was quick but it did not have the bottom end of a NA V8.
Corvettes rule!
(If you think a assembly line version of the GTR set that hot lap at the Ring, I got some beach front property in Arizona to sell....)

Those are quite impressive times for a car that supposidly weights almost 3800lbs. I think the numbers may be a bit over hyped. I'll wait and see what the official press release is in the next five days. I really wouldn't care even if it is faster because I just love corvettes regardless. Plus you can always mod
