Default 05 Mustang GT versus 97 Vette

I have a neighbor that has a 05 mustage GT w/5spd and thinks he can take me in the 1/8 mile. His is stock and mine is stock w/6spd. In my mind it would be close in the 1/8 mile but I think I would take him. In the 1/4 mile I think it would be a wider margin. What are everybody's thoughts?

The Mustang GT has 300 hp and yours has 345hp and weighs several hundred pounds less than the Mustang. If he beats you then its driver error. The Vette is favored in this one so go to the track and beat him.

It should not even be close. If your driving skills are on par with his, or vise versa, you should beat him pretty easily. As a matter of fact, if you have 3.42's and he doesn't have 3.55's, you should holeshot the crap out of him. 3.55's are a very rare Mustang option, probably in less than 1% of cars from the dealership come with them.

You should easily win as long as you have any driving skill whatsoever. Everything is in your favor(hp, torque, vehicle weight, aerodynamics, etc.). Stock vs. Stock a C5 is still way more than a new mustang wants to handle.

I think you'd kick his a$$ pretty easliy - I recently ran my '02 vert at the trck on test and tune night, (A4) and did consistant 13.4 @ 107 mph. There were a few new Rustang GT's there, running 14.2 - 14.3. The best 1 guy did was a 14.1. One had a factory supercharger, it was the older 385 hp version, and he was the only guy into the high 13's....

A 2 seater that cost close to $50K can beat a 4 seater the runs $28K. Go figure?

I think it's impressive, considering the 8 year difference.

Just saying you're comparing apples to oranges here.

50 hp more and 600 lb less weight. Duh!

600 pounds? Try half that. Unless stock '97s suddenly started weighing 2900 pounds.

I own both (04 Vette, 05 Stang). The Mustang is a fun car, but it ain't gonna beat the Vette.
