Hmmmm, a lot of gun threads... so, Vepr or ?

Probably not a coincidence there are a few more gun threads than usual but now I have the itch again, thanks OT! Here's what I'm considering and my thought process: I have an AR, 5.56/223. I'm VERY happy with it! I also have a Mosin Nagant 91/30 7.62x54R and it's an absolutely incredible gun to shoot! In my searches, I found Vepr rifles that shoot the same round. I'm thinking of having two rifles that shoot the same round is a good thing, right? So, anyone have any thoughts on them? I don't own an AK based rifle (yet) but I love the reliability of something like this. Anyone have first finger trigger experience with something like this? It looks like I'd have to order one, nobody around me has one for the taking right now. The thought of sending that round downrange without having to cycle a bolt is quite appealing to me I still love the feel of that massive MN club in my hands though! What a *BOOM* it offers! OR, I just go with a straight AK-47 7.62x39 round and have billions of surplus ammo available... Thoughts? :

Owning two firearms that fire the same caliber is a great idea.
And since you own a Mosin....that is a good thought.
I've never owned a Vepr but from the AK forums I frequent...those guys chalk them up to a poor mans AK.

That being said...I own a PSL-54 and 3 Mosins for that very reason.
If you can afford it....I would go on gun broker and get a PSL-54 before they are all gone. They are drying up quick, and with things being as they are these days...I doubt they will be making a come back.

I have read a couple of folks report that their Vepr shot fine and reliable for them...so I don't think you would go wrong for the price they are going for these days...but honestly if it was my money...I would hunt down a Romanian PSL-54 before they are gone for good.

Hmmm, hadn't considered the PSL-54. The scarcity is going to drive the cost up pretty quickly (especially now).

I have a Vepr carbine in .308 that I would like to sell if interested, have a lot of accessories to go with it. Was purchased new in sou Calif thru a gun shop in late 1999. All legal.

Hope I'm allowed to tell you about it on here.

Has 1 - 5 rnd mag & 4 - 10 rnd mags. Wood thumb hole stock, rifle sock, assault type nylon case w/pouches for mags, 2 scope mounts, 2 scopes, one variable power, 3 - 9 X 40 w/illuminated reticle w/ flip up caps & a Tasco Pro Point red dot, Tasco Sight Guide Bore Sight kit for initial set up of scope, extra scope rings, new cleaning kit, snap cap for dry firing, plus military type metal can with 356 rnds left plus 20 tracer rnds. Two slings, one factory & one leather, sling pad. Rifle only has 44 rnds thru it. Owners manual, but I do not have original box it came in. Plus October 1999 issue of S.W.A.T. magazine with article on the Vepr rifle, which originally convinced me to buy it. Very accurate, nice wood, functions flawless. $800.00 if interested.
