A lot of WTF going on here. Okay, if he did have it hidden up there, was it already up there when he was pulled over? It doesn't seem like the kind of thing you could do in a hurry.
Perhaps the cops are just covering their own asses for the gun being in the cell to begin with. If he went through all of that trouble to get it in there, why would he have told them about it?

Someone missed it on a search and is playing the CYA game. If it was a little .25 auto, I might have believed it, even a smaller revolver with the hammer bobbed would be possible, but no way that guy was driving around with that stuck up his ***.
