I remember when I was at the gun store, had a kid come in wanting to buy a shotgun, while he was looking at it, he asked if he could still buy a gun, for hunting, because a few years ago, he tried to kill his parents, but he spent 3 years in a physciatric hospital, and he's all better now. He was told to ask the cops.

and we also had a blind guy (with dog) came in with his Handgun Purchase Permit that has to be issued by the police after you get fingerprinted.
That means, the police had to know he was blind.
He walked out with a .40 caliber Ruger, if memory serves.

That being said: if a blind guy can get a gun, why can't a guy on anti-deppressants? If he's done nothing wrong, there is no reason he can't have a gun.
I know it doesn't work like this anymore, but the U.S. used to have this thing about "Innocent until proven guilty"

They could have sold the blind guy a starter's pistol. He wouldn't have known the difference.

Nothing against anyone on Anti-Depressants. It's just some cases(like killers) should not have been issued permits...
Heck No! You would have to take the guns off half the police department.

With how freely doctors prescribe things, often not really knowing whats wrong with you or what off lable uses the drug has, and even getting kickbacks by the pharmacutical companies so thats why they push it, I don't think that anti depressants should hinder you from owning a firearm.

Now if you have been labeled by a doctor or cops that you have suicidal thoughts... that could be a grey area for me.

What about people with ADD? they are being prescribed legal Cocaine basically. Or how about people with pain problems? Oxycontin is basically heroin.

what about someone with alcoholism but has managed to stay out of trouble iwth the law but could be dangerous?

the way i see it. it is easy to kill people. if someone wanted to kill someone they will get it done without the gun.

If it alters your mental state to the point that you can't make rational decisions, then no you shouldn't be carrying.

Just like you can't carry drunk, at least in the states I'm familiar with.

Hell, I think everyone that carries should be on anti-depressants.

I worked with depressed people for at least 25 years and still stay involved with the treatment of this disorder regarding medications. I'd rather be around someone on an anti-depressant than those that need it but would never take it.

There are far worse disorders than depression... borderline personality disoder, anti-social disorder, conduct disorder, and many others. Depression can be quite treatable... many of the other ones are less so.

Are the jails really full of CCW holders?

Probably right at 0.00000001%.
