Default [Car Shows] Rat Rods

..........are damn near as bad as ricers. Rat Rods have made it socially acceptable to drag a beat up pile of crap to a car show, set up folding chairs behind it and discuss your lack of taste and mechanical ability. I hope this fad passes soon. I'm tired of having to keep a wide berth around these things in case something falls off. I think period correct hot rods are cool. But this rat rod, hodge podge, 1/2 32 ford 1/2 farm implement, pieced together off stuff the guys from "American Picker" passed over crap is ridiculous.

Haven't seen much of that here, and from your description, hope it doesn't catch on.

While hot-rodded junk is still junk, I think a well done rat rod is cool.
There's a lot more creativity in rat rods than the standard issue 'glass-bodied 32 Ford ripoff with the small bock Chevy and enough chrome to fill a disco.

I've never been able to figure out why some people think they're done when it's still a rust bucket.

I have a friend building one but he's moving so slow I tell him everyone's going to be back into Americas Most Beautiful Roadster clones again by the time he finishes. sad thing is he's started with a pretty dang decent 29 Ford body and is "adding patina" to it.

They are cooler in a unique sense rather than the riced out vettes with lambo doors and stick on chrome pieces that always seem to show up at car shows not to mention the hot rod copycats. Some can be a little much though. :shrugs:

I saw 32 at a show a couple of weeks ago, was built very well, 6-71, some good parts on it, but if that thing had had a bath in the last 15 years it would have shocked me, fuel stains all over it and he drove it there.

The red primer looked like it had been put on with a brush right after it's last bath, and a couple of places where it had peeled off looked like it had nice paint under it.

I couldn't agree more. Traditional rods rule, rat rods suck.

I think it all started when someone found an old hot rod in a barn and brought it out for all to see "as it was found". Then we started seeing people trying to recreate those old finds.

We had our funny car at a show yesterday, the thing that bothers me more are people bringing their new cars to show. There was a stock Chevy pickup and a stock Chevy SUV, and a 2010 Camaro. I thought for a minute of entering my wifes Honda Pilot, how would that be any different, it is nice a clean.

Just get the little douchebag dolls to lean against it and you're good to go.

I like 'em all, from million dollar turn table display cars, to rusted out rat rods...sucks to be a victim of the car guy curse. If I was to build a daily driver rod, it would be a rat rod. No worries about a scratch, ding, or some a-hole leaning on it. Actually, this morning I was thinking a diesel rat rod would be pretty cool, chopped channeled, and bagged!

Actually APPEARANCE wise my vette is a lot like that, mainly because I suck at body work....(shuddupsmartasses)......
