Default Florida Sunpass question

I was looking at Publix and they still sell the Sunpass unit that is about the size of a thin garage door opener. It states to register the unit with the tag number of the vehicle you plan to use it in.
I would like to be able to purchase one and use it in my car, my wife's car, or a rental car when I drive to the Florida east coast or South Florida.
Does anyone here use one like this?

If you go online and register the plate of the rental car, you should be ok.. I believe that at certain toll locations, they actually bill the Sunpass by your plate and not the transponder. So, you need to register the license plate..

Wifey and I each have one. I have used the one from my car in rental cars with no problem.

Have had one for years (the older , thicker version), switch it between cars- no problem. If you use a rental -be careful, last time I noticed a disclaimer that using toll roads would incur charges- had to get that disabled so I didn't get double charged

For some reason I'm thinking some rental cars are already equipted with Sun Pass. Double check with the rental agency.

Yes, you are absolutely right, I saw it on their paperwork, the price was higher than normal sunpass cost, so I asked if I could use mine without getting doublecharged- worked out fine

There are two different models of transponder - one for a single car, and one for multiple cars.

We use it on either car, have both tags registered on our account. I'm not aware of different transponders.

From Sunpass.com (the mini sticker is what you get at Publix):

Q: Can I use the transponder with more than one vehicle?

A: You may use your SunPass Portable personal transponder on another vehicle that has the same number of axles, as long as the vehicle and license plate are listed on your account information. Transponders issued to commercial accounts are interchangeable between vehicles, regardless of vehicle type or axle count. For your convenience, the SunPass Portable transponders may be easily moved from car to car. However, all vehicles and license plates must be listed on your account information.

The SunPass Mini Sticker transponder needs to be permanently affixed to the windshield of just one vehicle. Once attached, the SunPass Mini Sticker transponder must not be removed from the windshield as it will be destroyed in the process. Removal of or attempt to remove a SunPass Mini Sticker Transponder from the vehicle windshield will render the unit useless.

Mount device to a piece of Lexan, use suction cups on said piece of Lexan. Friggin toll Nazis collecting tolls to upgrade toll collecting facilities. My question was; could you mount the stick one to say the inside of a urethane bumper?

I just bought the bigger version which has the suction cups and is designed for xfering car to car.

You can register all your cars online - so if you get a violation - they check to see if your registered before issuing a ticket... then deduct the funds.

each stick on transponder is linked to your vehicle tag so if I took mine from my 99 and put it in my 07 it will flag it as being wrong

This doesn't strike me as a system worth trying to beat.
