Default Need cost for well and septic system

Anybody have recent experience having a well drilled and pump installed? I realize this will vary much based on location and depth, etc. but would like to know the ballpark. Does that run $700? $7000?

Same deal for a septic tank. Once again it is understood this will depend on local drainage, number of bedrooms etc but I am curious of order of magnatude.

I am looking at bare properties for a minimal cabin and need to know what allowance to figure for putting these things in.

Thank you

I had to replace the pump and the pipe in an existing well, and it was 2200.00. The well depth was 370 feet. Like you said it depends.
So, generally I would like to have about 7K or so budgeted to install both in my area. Again it depends on the septic codes and soil etc.

For some camps around here, they don't use a septic field, just a holding tank, that must be pumped (by law) on an annual basis. Other guys rent a porta jon for a month.

Majority of septics in my area (Ca. foothills) run approx. $20-$30K. Wells $13 ft. + pipe, pump, and wire. My well is 503 ft. deep

for your septic are you allowed to have drain fields or a sand mound. a sand mound will cost a lot more then a drain field. you are looking around 10K for a drain field and about 15K for a sand mound

If you are just looking for water for a cabin and if the water level is under 30 feet below the surface just drive a point.

I had to get a well drilled last spring, they only had to go 42' down. Total cost was $5700.

In Northeast Florida, I think a well will run about 5 to 6 thousand and a septic tank and drainfield about 10 to 12 thousand.

If your area has a fluctuating water table, drill the well and plade the drain field on top of that.

42 feet? I'd have hand dug it and saved that much money.. (or atleast got a portable drilling rig and done it yourself)

My 100' well was drilled in April, 2005. They installed an Aermotor pump, Fiberwound Signature 2000 tank, did backhoe work from well to house (50') and installed the pump control box. Total cost was $3300.

Thanks everyone. That was an eye opener. I think i'll budget $20k when purchasing a property and then work determinedly to avoid that expense.

Sincere thank you for the great information.

I thought about $10.00 a foot plus a base charge and other equipment charges , (ie; pump, tank etc.), was the going rate in Georgia. I would love to put one in on my place but it's not one of my better half's priorities.

Just had my well pump burn out in May and for them to replace the pump and also change from pipe to PVC and run new wire down (120' deep), it was $1400.

200' well, 2 hp pump, tank, wiring and everything else = $5k. Septic system is aerobic and also ran about $5k - both in no-rock clay areas of S. Texas.

Well flow rate. If you find a deep well is just too costly for a cabin and you can get a low flow well 1 gpm or so at a shallow depth you might look into a 200 gallon plastic holding tank.
Rig you well pump on a float switch to keep the tank full and a booster pressure activated pump (available from marine dealers) for you fixtures.

I designed one for a friend in Aspen utilizing a 500 gallon tank and he installed it in his house there where water supply was only about a 1 gpm. It provided plenty of water for several people staying at the house. Running 8 hours overnight it stored up 480 gallons.
