I am looking to get a gun for my wife, she shoots with me and shoots my Kel-Tec P11, S&W 22a and my friends Beretta .40, 1911 45 and AR15. She has no issues with any of these but wants something small but with a full hand grip.
She will use it for CCW in purse or in the car.
We have narrowed it down to two .380's:
1.) Sig Sauer P238
2.) Bersa Thunder .380
The Sig is a Sig and is priced accordingly, the two tone will be ~$500 where the Bersa will be $279. Both are 1911 style guns and are close in size. Does anyone have any exp. with either of these? Pros or cons?
Have you considered the P3AT w/finger extender or +1 round extension?
Seems to be getting better, picked up ~ 400 rounds in the past 2 weeks, JHPs & FMJs.

She hates the P3AT, that or an LCP is what I am getting for a carry gun, she likes something more susbstantal feeling.
However, if you are not dead set on the .380 then there are some great 3 inch .45 acp 1911's out there. If the .380 is the way you are going then I vote the Sig or the Walther
If you want to go for a .380, check out the Beretta Model 85 (or 84 if you want a double stack). For a little less money, Taurus makes and exact copy of it called a PT 58.
My wife has been a CW carrier for eight years. The problem with most guns for women is their weight and size. If you want knock down power with a small gun I recommend a Glock model 33 .357 SIG. However. it is heavy compaired to the Taurus Titanium .38 Special. The Taurus is only five shots but it is very light and my wife is willing to carry it everywhere. A .38 Special hollow point shell will kill almost anything or any one and very few pepole need five shots for anything.
The Taurus is a model 2-850021TGC, M85 2". My wife's is Matte Gold and she loves it.
Think about the availability or lack of .380 ammo before purchasing
For whatever reason, the local Cabela's has all sorts of .380 ammo. Not much else....
There is a good variety of small lightweight revolvers in .38spl and .357that will work fine too. She should look at the S&W LadySmith or the Airweight. Taurus also has some very good lightweight revolvers in both .38 Spl and .357.
And there really is nothing wrong with the Ruger LCP in .380 as a carry pistol. Or the KelTec for that matter.
Or have her look at the Taurus PT145 Millennium Pro in .45ACP if she wants a large caliber. 10+1 capacity and weighs about the same or a few ounces more than the SP-101. I have one and it's easy to shoot, the recoil is not that bad with 230gr ball ammo and I can easily get 4-5" COM groups at 7 yards.
I just picked up a Ruger SP-101 with the 2 1/4" barrel in .357. It's larger and heavier (26oz) than some other revolvers but for purse carry it would work fine. It can also easily be carried IWB if she wants to go that way.
With these types of revolvers, it's easy to find a suitable load that will work for self-defense and there is JHP ammo out there that is marked as "low recoil" or "for short barrel".

Then it is an easy answer. Forget the .380 guns she is looking at. Step up to the PM9 which is every bit as small as the Sig or Bersa but packs a better punch.

Yes, according to the stats Glock developed the .357 sig specifically to deliver the same speed with a 125 gr bullet as a .357 revolver with four inch barrel-something like 1450 fps. With a Pearce Grip +1 extender on the mag you have 10 shots vs 5 or 6 for a .357 revolver plus a much better grip. Whole lotta power in a small package ( relative to a 1911 ).
If you want a .380 why not a Colt. I think their small version is called the "pony" or something like that...very small-have an all stainless version and a alloy frame version.
But, nothing beats a .38 special five shot alloy with hidden ( no snag ) hammer.....unless you need six or more shots in a hurry which is doubtful.
