Default Stock tune

If a c6's original stock tune is saved and then reinstalled via hp tuners, it should not throw any red flags when getting a ca smog done, right? (Assuming rest of the car is stock)

I've searched through multiple threads with varying information

Don’t do it. Keep stock computer. But another and play with that one. This is infinitely cheaper than the alternative.

I was hoping to avoid using a secondary ecu if possible, but I might have to.

Anyone know if going back to the stock tune works with stock ecu?

I had an issue. Stick tune wouldn’t upload. Had to buy a new ecm. However the car was a 2003 and 20 years old. But was working fine. Just wouldn’t upload.

Supposedly there is some check sum number that confirms the number of flashes, or something like that, that they're checking for that now as part of the smog process. That's why the prevailing wisdom is don't do it or you need a second ECU and leave your original one intact.

They check to see if the Cal ID matches the stock Cal ID from the manufacturer. As long as you still have the bone stock tune file you can flash that back into the computer and be fine on the Cal ID part of things.

To my knowledge the c6 ECU doesn't have a flash counter. The check sum is to verify all the values match the stock tune and cross reference with the VIN, i believe
