CHP using laser binoculars
Quote from Escort's forum
I've seen this device used in Tuolumne County this week.
Be advised, if your visiting Yosemite or the Sonora area,
best be traveling at prescribed speeds and on your side of the double yellow at all times.
Recently another flatlander killed a local and himself.
He was passing on a double yellow blind left hander and met his victim head on, not far from the Yosemite entrance.
"The binocular looking LIDAR device was probably a Kustom ProLite which our detectors can detect.
LIDAR laser transmits a very fine beam and is typically aimed at your front license plate and/or headlights. Depending on how close you were to the laser gun when it was triggered the beam may have been so narrow that it never entered the laser detector.
Your mounting location can greatly effect this. Mount the detector lower on your windshield for better laser detection just be sure that your wipers are not blocking it's view of the road."

CHP has been using LIDAR for 10 yrs in the bay area. If you are speeding and your radar / laser detector beeps, its just telling you you are about to get a ticket. Laser reads your speed instantly, you cant slow down fast enough to save yourself, you have to jam it...... Google laser intercepter, ive been running one for years and they work great.

Anyone want to paint their front bumper with VEIL?
Actually I was thinking of soaking a spandex bra with the stuff.

They simply look through the site place the red dot on the vehicle (it's a concentrated beam on one vehicle compared to the radar that sweeps the area) they want to clock, hold the trigger and it gives them their speed and distance in I would say less than three seconds. So as he stated by the time your radar detector picks up the LIDAR signal you don't have time to slow down.

My V-1 is 8 years old. I don't know if it is the latest version or if it needs to be updated since it does an excellent job to let me know when CHP is around using KA or Lidar Laser. I drive at a reasonable speed so if they hit me it doesn't matter it is just that I like to know when they are around or monitoring us. I keep it in Logic mode with K band and X band locked out. I do notice lately I have been getting false alarms on lidar when leaving Benicia Bridge and at other remote times.
Could it be the LED's lights on some of these newer cars setting V-1 off?

If I travelled to L.A. or across Nevada or Utah at just 2-3 over the limit I'd have a stroke! Nobody needs a detector at those speeds, just something to keep them awake...
