Funny Observation - No Wave in Bay Area
My observation over past 6 months during multiple visits to all over Bay Area is that the corvette drivers don't care/bother to wave or flash even though i have my hand out of window or clearly visible to them.
Most of them ignore. So far i have only received one wave from a c6 near Dublin.
I also observed that irrespective of who is driving, none of the drivers in C3/C4/C5 cared to wave.
Two particular bad incidents that stand out were when in traffic jam on 101, i was right beside a c5 and lady didn't bother to wave back. In another scenario, the old guy also didn't wave or acknolwedged my wave in a C5.
OTOH, i get regular waves in Sacramento and surroundings. Just last week i crossed a c6 going the other way and we both waved and smiled.
This must have happened more than 10-15 times. So I am thinking of not waving anymore as it is getting absurd. Looks like the Wave is not alive in Bay Area.
Is it the norm?

Don't ever recall a woman waving back. Now, I did get flashed last spring by a young lady, but was so stunned I didn't realize what had happened until it was too late.
I was on my way to Death Valley just outside a little town called Trona and was cranking it up on a wide open desert road.
Saw a 70's Ford Pickup coming at me and noticed the passenger seemed to be sitting very high in the seat, just about the time we met, up came the blouse/shirt. I was running in the triple digit range so it all happened so fast, I had no time to react. Thought about going back and chasing them down, but I didn't

Just to congested here with many drivers having their heads up their asses when driving.
Plus the Corvette isn't all that special around these parts.
It is for me but my glass is small and full.
Most drivers would not notice their spouse driving by.

I always wave....don't keep track of those that return the wave. i do get a good percentage that return the wave.
I had the exact identical 95 red (different wheels) get on 580 W in Livermore. Slowed to wave as I was right next to him. You would think that identical cars would give that extra recognition. But no return wave. Just wrote it off.

i always wave, i love it when I see an elderly lady driving her stock C5 and smiles at me and waves back, i think its awesome!! And i usually don't pay attention to see if anyone waves back i (unless i'm stopped) keep my eyes on the road.

Just today, i started for lunch. At a stop signal near Mathilda Ave and 237, there was a blue C5 opposite me. While taking a left turn, i waved so that C5 guy can see me but no wave returned.
Felt embarrassed doing it in front of colleague who is not aware of this tradition.
Most of the time i initiate the wave unless i don't see the other car coming or going. I will still wave but certainly won't be the one to initiate unless absolutely sure of getting one back.

It's hard for some drivers to wave when they are on their cell phones.

I get a pretty good rate of returns on the wave. My experience is most C5 and C6 owners wave back. If they don't, I give them the benefit of doubt in that they did not see me wave. And many women have waved back as well. I give women the most leeway because they may not know the true intention of men waving at them.

A good percentage of the people I wave to, wave back. In fact, many of them are already waving when I think I'm initiating it. I guess it's a matter of where you live. I am in Discovery Bay where there is a high awareness of Corvettes, but I even get a strong return wave when I drive into Livermore/Pleasanton. I don't take mine down into Silicon Valley much since I don't get down there very often anymore.
And I agree with Prinz that many women might interpret it incorrectly if they don't already know the tradition.

I commute in the bay area. I always wave - I wave first if I see them first, wave back if I didn't see them first. I have yet to have someone not wave back. Plus, all sorts of folks honk, or wave that aren't in vettes (smiling waves, not flippin me off!). That's in the C6. The C7 responses are quite magnified! People still videoing the car from their cars on the fwy! Everybody thumbs up, waves, honks, it's nuts.

I always wave but I do get annoyed when I am side by side and the guy cant wave. I do agree with others that women get a pass on the wave but I still wave to them.
