Beginner's Autocross at Solano College this Saturday
I'm thinking of finally entering into my first Autocross at the Beginner's Autocross event at Solano College this Saturday posted on the WSCC calendar. Is anyone else on this forum planning to attend this event? I'm also wondering how long to plan on it lasting that day. The schedule says 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM but my question to past attendees is, does it usually last that long or does it normally end earlier than that? I have a dinner get together planned that evening and am wondering if I can still attend both events with the 1.5 hour drive. Keith

Keith,
Plan on getting there at 0800 or a little before and you can run and work a morning run group and still make your plans with plenty of time, in fact you could leave by noon.

We design and run the Solano events. Saturday will be a perfect day to try it out for the first time because it will be a relaxed environment for the beginners and plenty of time for riding along or having an instructor ride with you. You will have fun and still be able to leave around noon if you get there early and sign up, just like Steve suggested.

The key to autocross is that you run one session and work a session on the track (replacing knocked over cone, passing along info about how many cones were knocked over). So there is basically two morning sessions and two afternoon sessions. Work the first and drive the second...or drive the first and work the second.
It is a lot of fun and you will enjoy it.

It was a fun day. It tried to sprinckle in the morning. Maybe just damp fog, but none the less, it did not stop anyone.
Rich Richie was King of the road, as usual.
Good to see some guys I haven't seen in a while.
Practice, Practice, Practice.

Thanks to all who put this event on. I had a great time and learned a lot. This is the first event that I learned how beneficial it can be to know how to brake properly. I never felt that I needed to know that before.

Thanks to all that braved the weather on Sat and came out to have fun. Sunday turned out great as well and we did not have one drop of rain. We had over 70 cars both days and did plenty of fun runs at the end of each day for those that wanted additional practice.
I think the mods we did to the car recently (LG coil overs and ball bearing bushings) made a huge difference because Carrie and I were able to take 1-2 finish both days. Sunday she was only .12 seconds behind me and nearly a full second ahead of 3rd place.

That might explain why the 7th Annual All Corvette Car Show at Hooter's had less cars this year.
It WAS a great day everywhere in NorCal!
