You should try to make it out to Infineon at least one to watch some bracket racing. We race every Wednesday night and there's also two days of racing on May 27th and 28th.

I agree on the Coast Highway route. It is Highway 1. The drive from SF will take 2hrs. 15 min. minimally. That is with all going well. I would allow three hours at least, the route offers many sights. Try and start by picking up the Coast Highway before the city of Pacifica, out by the Hwy 280 and 35 junction.
As far as the City sights go check out a tour guide book. I would list The Golden Gate Bridge as a must. Not sure how much time you will have. If just a day in the City do the GG Bridge, the Marina area and the Water Front from Fisherman's Wharf down to AT&T park. I suggest renting a bike, the walk is nice but will take more time, 3 hours round trip at least. Cable Car ride from the wharf area to Union Square ( downtown ), then walk to China Town. You can take the cable care to the Wharf area. I would leave the car in this area after the bridge visit. Parking is difficult and you'll get more flavor on the public transportation. The Cable cars wait can get lengthy during tourist season. This will be a full days schedule, start early!
You will have to drive out to the Golden gate and parking is available just before the toll plaza. Park then take a little walk on the bridge. The Marina and Fisherman's Wharf are just a few miles away. The Bridge offers a exciting welcome into the bay and the San Fransisco area. Fun to see a ship coming in or going out.
Please do not hesitate to PM me for any help, we can talk on the phone.

If you post the actual dates that you have free, we can see if there are any date-specific events going on.

thanks - only thing we have set in stone is Alcatraz Sunday evening (6:10 pm). We were only going to do one day at San Fran but now it looks like 2 (looks like we are flying home Tuesday instead of Monday).

You will have some time to enjoy the City. Pebble Beach is Gods country. Be sure to do the 17 mile drive in Pebble Beach. Especially beautiful along the ocean, my favorite spot is Point Joe.
Also the slang, "San Fran" is a giveaway of being from out of town and is taken as a slur.

We are staying in Salinas and plan to head of over to the pebble beach one night.
Do yourself a favor, cancel the Salinas hotel and re-direct your reservations to Pacific Grove or Monterey.

We stayed at the Marriott once. Nice hotel, walking distance to many things to do,and places to eat and drink on the wharf. I agree about Salinas, stay in Monterey or Pacific Grove. There are a couple hotels in PG that are close enough to the beach to walk.

thanks for the info guys - I will check out the hotels in Monterey area. I thought I saw a Marriott there (which is where I almost always stay).
Good thing for the forum since we have no idea what the area is like
