Default You never know what you'll see at Alice's Restaraunt...

I got an email yesterday purporting to be from Larry Bowman inviting me to come out to Alice's Restaurant today to hang out with him and his original 1963 Corvette Grand Sport #3. At the time, I didn't really take it seriously, but I decided that there is no such thing as a wasted trip to Alice's. Boy am I glad I went for brunch...

Now that I know it's really him and we are in communication, I will definitely post up here next time he plans on showing up.

To answer some questions I have received....

Yes,this really is Grand Sport #3. The owner of this 6-10 million dollar car lives right down the road from Alice's. Being a 1963, the car is smog exempt, which means registration is not an issue. However, the car was sporting dealer plates. Several of my buddies who were there know the owner and authenticated the car.

You are right about the fuel tank; it is is above and forward of the differential.

There is no spare in this car. However, back in its racing heyday, it was required to carry a spare. The spare rested horizontally on the rear body brace and was secured by that white bungie arrangement visible above the battery.

That is awesome! I know you said the owner lives pretty close by, I am guessing he drove it there.

Very cool vette. Is that the only original 1963 Corvette Grand Sport #3 around. Or are there others?

There are exactly five Grand Sports. That is chassis #003.

#003, #004, and #005 are coupes. #001 and #002 started as coupes but were converted into roadsters.

It also had be able to fit a suitcase of a specified size. That's why GM made the "trunk" in the back where other midyears did not have this.

Yup, he drove it there, hung out for a while, then drove it home.

Not a chance in the world the spare could have co-existed with a suitcase. This is the trunk area of the #004 car with the spare tire present:
