Default T-hill Videos and Stuff from Nov. 5/6

Sorry Sidney, beat you to it . Sounds like you guys had a great day with ncrc today. I'm glad it didn't rain on you. I'll start the festivities with 2 videos from the Volvo day on Nov. 5th. One is a short video of Andrew's bmw track toy. Very fun car to drive and handles like its on rails.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UpZHn3eoQls

Next one is of a couple laps I did in the afternoon. I think with a warmer track and less wind (the sun never really came out on Thursday) and without making any significant mistakes, my car as it is setup should be able to turn 1:57 laps over the top of 5. However, I'm starting to get a little nervous about my stock engine and wet sump. Might need to look into at least an accusump or something. I probably drove for 2 hours or so on Thursday and paced myself in traffic waiting for my chances to go for some fast laps. I started using wilwood H pads for a couple days now and just realized they are endurance pads. No wonder they don't bit like my dtc-70's did. The rotors still look new after 2 days.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BbxEOHUTllo

One more video for the heck of it. Since I started, might as well add one more from a month ago

That's a very nice time. Looks like it was fun! I haven't been to THill since January. I definitely need to get back there.

Great Speed and driving Bill, fast and the track looks really clean, could not see any other cars at all :-))

I can highly recommend PFC pads if You haven't tried it ! Not to high immediate torque but great breaking power and easy to modulate !

In regards to dry sump or accusump, have you looked at this thread

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/auto...l-pan-now.html

I'll be contacting Milodon next week to see what they say.

Anyone else heard anything in regards to these types of oil pans works ?

Cheers, Hakan

Thanks for sharing and great speed
- How is wear for the R100s vs R6s and who sells them?
I think I have 12 events on my R6s and they aren't what they used to be, but have not corded yet. But it's time to get another set.

Congratulations Bill, those were great laps and fantastic times. Track conditions were not as good as the last few times I had been there as the track surface was cooler. I think your next mods ought to be aerodynamic, if you could get 200 or more pounds of downforce thru turns 1 and 8, you would see a big step. Those R100's are pretty good Are you running the 305's all around?

I had a fun day, it was great hanging out with Dennis, Andrew, Paul and Joe F(red Z06, who took a great ride thru the dirt just in front of me in turn 9! it looked like Sebastien Loeb driving in Corsica; not on camera though, my batteries were dead.) At first, I was driving on Goodyear Slicks in front and R100's in the rear; it did not feel too good and the warm up characteristics of the tires were very different. I swapped tires and put the Goodyears in the rear with the Hoosiers up front and my best lap was a 2:06.99 but I would not recommend these mismatched sets, it felt weird. My brakes were chitty too, PFC 80's(the very first racing compound from PFC, they must of been at least 20 years old, I am not sure they were worth the $25 I paid for them on Ebay) no fade, not much wear, no failure but just no friction, I was standing on the brakes for all it was worth into 14. Nonetheless, they were better than Andrew's I will post some videos later

That's a lot of "tenderized" rubber in the air The flag guy in the tower was probably scanning the area behind your car looking for "alien" matter on the track with the "meatball" / yellow flag at the "ready" !

Do You have any videos (any chance for a new "camera in the wheel house" shot from the rubber cloud) or other feedback ? Based on Bill's feedback is sounds as You had a lot of fun in the new "metric" based car !

Sounds as You guys had a great time (even though You had a balance act with different tires and the brakes, are you sure the PFC's weren't knock off's ?)

In regards to the Chipmunk noise, was that the pads or ? (I have a whole "tribe" of chipmunks in my car's when I'm running on the PFC's)

Looking forward to some Video's !

Made in the USA, if the Chinese were going to make knock off PFC racing pads, I am sure they would label them as 01 or 03

These sound like chipmunks with HAMMERS!

Hey Sidney, sounds like you had a good day. Yeah, these tires made up for the cold track. I had 305 in front and 320 rear. If I start my lap timing right before turn 1 it turns out I did a 1:58.5 lap. Here's some lap data from that run. I'll have to look back at my runs with R6's but I'm pretty sure my lateral G's were very close to those below.

I want to set my car up for nasa TTS next year (I think). After driving Flink's car I also think it would be fun to go wheel to wheel in something similar to his bmw. But if I go TTS I'll have to run A6/R6 tires and maybe look into downforce if the points allow it. I'm not really sure how people setup their C5Z's for TTS yet. John (JRL) does TTA and dominates with his stock C5Z. I'll be a newbie learning the ropes if I do it next year. First I need to hit infineon a few times to learn that track. Should be fun .

Awesome vids! I'd love to hear more about how the track-car BMW compares to driving our Zs.

I ran H-compound pads that weekend I was out at THill w/ ya'll. When the brakes were actually working (which wasn't often ) I thought the bite was great... guess I'll have to try some dtc-70s and see what they can do!

As mentioned before I'm going true dry-sump so I'll be selling my Accusump setup w/ all the right **** to bolt into a C5Z. It's "only" a 2qt though that mounts in the battery location. Some of the other kits are 3qt and go in the fender. You obviously would need to relo your battery and I'm not including that stuff since my dry-sump tank is going there. Nick did my install, so I'm sure he could do yours too. I don't want much for it, but we can discuss that via PM if you're interested.

What tires were you running? Last time at THill I was on old 710s (275f/315r) and was really happy with them, but with the new motor I think I'll need a bit more!

Where do you find the NASA rules, my motor build will probably put me out of anything reasonable but it'd still be interesting to look. I still need a lot of seat time before I really think about TTs anyway.

Hak,
I missed you and Nik, I was looking allover the place for you. Gophers made out ok, no excursions though there were a lot of cars in front of me that went looking. I just checked my video cam and started at 2:12-2:13 the first couple of runs and wound up w/ a 2:10 and one run just below that. The group was considerably slower w/out you guys I never passed so many cars, some of them had no business in point by
and maybe one or two cars that blew by me. Dropped tire presssure to 38psi hot and seemed to work well. I was really pumped, lot of people came over and was looking at the car and asking me all kinds of questions, like I knew the answers, hah. Sidney and Paul helped me on a couple of turns and that was the difference in times. Boy it doesn't take much, I can see I have a lot more to learn.

Right on Dennis! That's a nice improvement. Let's see some video . Hey, I think I told you I was trying to get my Dad to come up to the track with me. Well he didn't buy a vette but he just bought a 370Z Nismo. Next year he'll be coming up to join us, probably start with HOD. His name is Fred, so maybe the other Fred can be his coach .

The H pads are much less aggressive than the dtc-70's, but I might keep using them because they last longer and don't eat up rotors. I just need to get some for my rear brakes too. The 710's are great tires too, but I was using new hoosier R80/100's this time. Best of both worlds it seems (grip and life), although I don't know the real price because I got them for the price of A6/R6. Nasa has a website with all its rules. You will definitely be in TTU and going against monsters like Dave's Katech C6zo6 . Luckily you won't be in my group . I still haven't researched oil options yet (race pans, accusump, dry sump, etc.). I'll let you know if I decide to go with an accusump.

Bill,

In TTS you can run aero. There are no point limits. Just pwr/weight equal to or above 8:70.1. So, suspension, tire size are open.
L98Terrer (Ken Smith) and GAS (Geff Sawtelle) on these forums were the 2 fastest TTS cars at Nationals. They would help you with setup.

OK, here we are beating up on some slow cars, lol.

Not really sure what happened there. Perhaps everyone was intimidated by my 2:11 lap times and 110mph terminal velocity. Or the stickers. Yeah, that was it - the stickers. It sure wasn't the gay little wing.

Here's Bill:
